Edited on Wed Oct-10-07 01:55 PM by Daphne
This is so damn tragic. WTF is wrong with our system that makes it so easy for kids to get hold of guns with no supervision? He had two handguns.

Another needless tragedy.

Kid on MSNBC siad the shooter got beat up a couple of days ago for saying "fuck god."

Totally senseless.

Not justifying it, but I would say that kind of reaction is more prevalent than one could possibly think.

33. How is it different from a rabid dog that has attacked an infant?
When animals go defective, the best thing is to euthanize them before they do more harm. It ain't rocket science.

42. For one, we're talking about a person and not a dog.
For another, your line of argument is a strawman, as I don't think anyone is arguing that his death was unneccessary - as if he is intent on killing someone then self-defense is appropriate. I think what people are taking issue with is that you seem to be reveling in his death and unable to simultaneously mourn his death as well as the deaths of those people murdered by him.

47. Why would I mourn him? He was a totally worthless, defective animal.
Absolutely no humanly redeeming human value. Nor was I reveling, just observing that he saved the system a lot of time, trouble and money. That -is- a small consolation to emerge from the whole clusterfuck. By the way, he didn't kill anybody but it sure as fuck wasn't from lack of trying.

49. He's not a worthless, defective animal.
If that's what you tell yourself to make yourself feel better, then go right ahead - though it doesn't change the reality. He was a human being who, for one reason or another, committed a terrible act. It doesn't change the fact that the kid was still human.

57. At one time he was someone's son - but something snapped.
And I am sorry his life got so mucked up that he had to resort to gun violence thinking it would accomplish something for him.

I have the same level of sympathy for the VA Tech shooter, and for their families who survive them, in addition to all the victims who suffered.

Mental illness is still a stigma in our society and this is what we reap from perpetuating it as a stigma.

16. Remember 14? Remember how young you were, even though you felt otherwise.
It seemes like this kid had barely the time to wake up.

Maybe thee is true evil at that age, but I think if so it is very rare. I doubt this is one of the cases.

More like a very disturbed and confused young man. The ENTIRE incident is distressing.

Not to mention a child - so I don't consider it "good" that he shot himself, nor do I consider it "good" that he shot other people. The whole thing is a tragedy. I'm sorry that point is lost on you.

Well, I'm not a madame (and my name isn't Goober), and I didn't know if you used your real name or not (as most people do not). So please forgive my assumption that (a) you were not using your real name as a handle and (b) that you would be unwilling to tell this childs parents how happy you are that their child killed himself.

Edited on Wed Oct-10-07 04:07 PM by skip fox
We were struggling with the times table or history or girls or our bodies' sudden spurts. Life seemed so complicated, but rich and worthwhile.

That was nearly fifty years ago. I miss such a world (but not its civil rights nor its military aggression) in which to raise children. Everyone should have it as well as I did.

Edited on Wed Oct-10-07 04:22 PM by Mandate My Ass
for coming out of his bedroom holding a clothing iron. His mother had called in a domestic dispute regarding the boy. The two cops had over 50 yrs combined experience and they couldn't disarm a slightly built teenager brandishing a small electrical appliance without shooting him in the chest and killing him. Good grief. It seems like it's open season.

But when a suspect comes running out with an object in hand, the officers have to make a fast gudgment before someones life is possibly ended, they have to look out for their own safety and others as well.
