34. In all seriousness, I believe he plead
guilty to...
"The Idaho Republican arrested June 11 in an MSP restroom entered a guilty plea Aug. 8.

U.S. Sen. Larry Craig, an Idaho Republican, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in Minnesota this month after being arrested by a plainclothes police officer investigating complaints of lewd conduct in a men's restroom at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport." source: http://www.startribune.com/587/story/1386023.html
He also, upon arrest, flashed his Senate ID and asked the officer 'what he thought about that?', the classic do you know who I am? wanna-be intimidation tactic of a self-important a-hole, intimating a threat instead of a bribe.
Who gives a fuck if he's gay, no one, but he was arrested way back on June 11 07 and didn't plead guilty to it until August, so his BS about being pressured is all BS. I wish the cop would've pressed him further on the significance of displaying his status as a U.S. Senator, as in 'are you trying to pretend to threaten me, or am I about to make history'?
Craig failed both legally and morally.
Not only that, but he said if he couldn't get the plea "un-plead", he would resign immediately. A Minnesota judge denied his unusual legal argument, and he flip-flops; Craig sez he's staying until '09.
For now.

13. What I find a bit surprising is the lack of logic and, well, intelligence
among his supporters.
A moment's thought tells me that, unless he simply enjoys being the brunt and at center of a tragic, boorish joke, he is making the stupidest choice he can make, under the circumstances.

The logic part is that, if he makes this kind of pointless, self flagellating decision on something of this import, his capacity to make decisions may well be suspect--is suspect. And, in that case, his supporters really ought to make the connection that, just maybe, the things he stands for are not good for civilization, in fact, may well be deliberately anti-social, designed to hurt, for his own twisted scale of what's important and what's just.

25. If your senator was a guilty, lying, ****sucker, would you want him to stay in Congress?
Edited on Thu Oct-04-07 08:32 PM by Major Hogwash
Naw, me neither.
He needs to go because he makes all US Senators look bad.
He has disgraced himself and his position in government.
How do we explain to our kids that Craig pleaded guilty for trying to have oral sex with another man in a public restroom at an airport?
How can we keep our kids from being more cynical about the federal government when a man like Craig says he will resign one day, and then says he won't, the next?
How can we expect our kids to look up to a man like that?
What kind of a role model for our kids is Craig, anyway?
How can we keep our kids focused on reading their school assignments about good government in their civics classes, after they have read the newspaper headlines on their computers?
How can we keep our kids from telling jokes about men having sex in restrooms?
How can the Republicans ever hold their heads up again after what has happened with Senators Craig and Vitter, and Representative Mark Foley?
How can the American people stand to listen to anything this man has to say ever again, without imagining him sitting in a restroom stall, swiping his hand under the neighboring stall, and tapping his feet against the person sitting in that adjacent stall?

Does anyone really think this man has any credibility left?

The people of Idaho don't.

36. Maj. Hogwash, if you'll allow me to say,
I think you're taking respect for the Federal Government way too serious. Craig is the quintessential Republican in a very powerful office; he makes decisions for others, the mere taxpayers and then his constituents, who must live with the consequences and regulations of his votes, while he feels himself free to ignore them, then thinly veils a threat/bribe when caught living out his hypocrisies.
He's a self-acknowledged criminal and flip-flopping weasel, the embodiment of a GOP U.S. Senator.
Why would you not want a guy like that not being the most famous Republican Senator? Most people can't name their congressman, let alone both U.S. senators, but everyone knows Craig is the Republican "family values" huckster/U.S. Senator.
C'mon dude, I generally agree with you that the government as an institution deserves at least a modicum of respect, but why would you want half of it's establishment to so quickly sweep their hypocrisy under the rug?
I think the Senators are even close to making a decision whether they should state that Craig might be an embarrassment to them!
