How do you avoid being diverted by awefulness and focus upon relevance, life-sustaining relevance?

Give your advice about how to stay centered upon issues advancing common lives rather than petty human bile.

1. The ignore and hide thread buttons are your friend

It's not cowardice or closed mindedness or shutting down someone else to ignore them or hide their thread. It's equivalent to choosing not to listen to Limbaugh's radio show.

3. I go read a few select blogs by well-informed, intelligent and enlightened writers

and ignore the bulk of what is being posted on DU.

After 6 years here, I'm extremely selective of which threads I'll click on.

That's my advice, just be very selective.

I just stop reading them. They are Obama supporters and they are upset that Hillary is tearing his ass up, they don't know what to do. The troll the republican sites, reprint all the republican talking points thinking people will believe them. I made my mind up today, childest is as childest does. And if these are Obama supporters, than what do you think of Obama.

14. Well, it depends on just what you mean

by "irrelevance." One person's irrelevance is another person's brilliance is another person's comic relief is another person's trash is another person's...........well, you get the picture. EVERYONE has their own ideas of what is important and what is irrelevant and that doesn't mean that everyone else will, or even should, share that personal opinion.

15. You can tell a lot by the quality of the prose.

People that write well, think well. It is true that you have to wade through a lot of chaff, but it beats the heck out of censorship or ignorance.

And anyone that is out to scare you or make you mad is not your friend.
