For those wondering about Iranian Weapons:

For those wondering about Iranian Weapons:

I stongly suggest you read; Ghost Wars: The Secret History of the CIA,
Afghanistan, and Bin Laden, from the Soviet Invasion to September 10, 2001

Stephen Coll writes a fascinating history of the US involvement in fighting
a secret war against the Soviets in Afghanistan.

At one point Coll points out how the CIA bought a myriad of weapons on the
open arms market from China, Egypt and even Soviet troops in the eastern
Soviet Block states that were breaking up at that time all so the arms could
not be directly traced back to the US.

If the Iranian government was shipping arms into IRAQ would they be dumb
enough to leave “Made in IRAN” stamped on the weapons.

The point is that there are so many weapons flowing from so many sources in
that area that finding a few weapons made in IRAN tells you nothing at all.

Maybe the CIA bought the weapons on the open market and dumped them there to
bolster the case for war against Iran.

Maybe Saudis dumped them there to influence US opinion against there
religious enemies in IRAN…

Who the hell knows

1. If people were really concerned about Iran...
they'd be enlisting.

2. This is an excellent point that occurred to me as well

Supposedly, the special armor piercing explosives have their serials on them that allowed tracing them back to a specific factory in Iran. That was a huge "Say what?" moment for me.

4. Actually, earlier today I found this website, which at least appears to confirm the origin...
of the mortars shown in the briefing for reporters in Baghdad.

Here are my threads on it:
The fuzes looked to be the same:

And the actual mortars looked the same:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=192344&mesg_id=192344

Now on the other hand, I think this really shows Iran's government is not involved in shipping the arms, because if this is so obvious, I don't buy it. It just doesn't make sense that someone would do something covert and not cover their tracks.

Hell, for all I know, Saudi Arabia, Jordan or Israel could have purchased these to make Iran look bad.
