Sorry to be so clueless, but I missed that one...

1. Nothing really. We just wanted to hear from our leader.

4. Thanks. Just read it. Here is my 2 cents.
Much as Ilove Redstone, I really don't understand what he wanted Skinner to say or do at this point. We, all of us, are the strength of DU and part of the strength of the Democratic Party. I realize his plea was straight from the heart, a cri de coeur. But Skinner and the other admins are not here as pastors to give us spiritual direction. We can do that ourselves and we should, by continuing to speak the truth, illuminate corners of ignorance and always, always question everything. I agree with Redstone's complaints, I have them myself and am constantly outraged as he is.

But we gotta do this ourselves.

Eyes on the prize, folks...

5. The party is splitting apart.
What will the rules be?

Let it coast to a chaotic mess?

6. OK, the administration of this board does, rightfully, have guidelines.
Do you envision some additional ones that will help? What do you suggest?

As for our party being a chaotic mess, Will Rogers said he didn't belong to an organized party, "I am a Democrat." That was back in the 1930s I think.

This democracy thing gets crazy. But through all the chaos here and on other sites I still get good information from people who know more than I do about many things. I like seeing other points of view. I only get mad when I think I've been misinterpreted deliberately.

I too wish we had a candidate with the stature of FDR that will lead our party. BUt it seems to me that the fact that we don't have that leader means we have to keep on fighting for what we believe in. I know it's not easy...

7. If chaos is fun for you, then by all means, let it happen.
I thought it made some sense to look realistically at what is happening with the party, but... hey, if that's not exciting enough for you, then by all means......

Oh, and the OP of that thread wasn't asking US for suggestions... it was simply a request to look realistically at the widening split in the party, and think and talk about it.

Yet, some of you want to decide that's "autoritarian" (which I guess the rules are too, then), or "fascist" (which means people don't know what fascism means).

What Will Rogers said has nothing to do with the current situation.

But, as I said, if it makes life more exciting for you......

8. Where did "fascism" come into play here?
Please, I want to hear about your ideas for restraining the chaos. I asked for them. I am not being snarky, I want to learn...

13. "fascism" was one of the terms used to respond to Redstone....
People get freaked if someone says we need to actually discuss something. So afraid of their precious "freedom of speech", and maybe being asked to be considerate of others.

I DON"T have ideas, and this isn't my priority. Being homeless, my priority is poverty, and trying to get people to care about that. I can't put in energy trying to solve this problem, too. And that wasn't the POINT. The point was for Skinner et al to THINK about it, discuss it, and recognize that there are some real issues coming up that no amount of sweeping under the rug is going to solve.

But, I can tell you that a very good DUer, after the '04 election, brought up the issue of the split in the party between DLC and progressives. His post was very well thought-out, very accepting of each side, yet he was laughed off DU, and here we are, with the very same issue about to explode. Both nationwide in the party, and on DU. Just keep sweeping it away?

The rules say that people can't post in favor of third parties, etc. Well, there are a lot of very committed Dems, who have worked hard for years for the Dem party who are giving up. It's PAINFUL for them, and it deserves consideration. There are people who care so much about this country, that they are worried that it is now country above party, or lose it all. Should they just be given the boot, as so many DUers want to do? Do you approve of telling them some of the nasty things that have been said to them?

Then, if they are just dismissed and the election goes badly, what then? BLAME those who cared so deeply, and were so troubled over it all?

How much division do you want to see?

How many good people do you want to lose to the party?

Skinner always says it doesn't matter if good people leave, because they are always replaced by other good people. So, is that really the attitude of the party? Is that productive to just wave bye, and not give a shit?

There is a serious split, and someone, somewhere better start CARING about it.

Now, we'll see if you're serious about anti-snark, or if you just rip into me. I've already been told it matters not that I hurt, so maybe you want to add to that bit of insensitivity.

14. Well, my husband coordinates the homeless programs for the city of New Haven so we are not clueless
about that issue. Believe you me, we live with that every day!

Also, I agree that we need more discussion, more free speech, about our problems, rather than less.

I don't think we are on opposing sides. I just wanted to know what we would accomplish by laying this at the feet of Skinner and the other admins. We have to clean up our own act. It is the ultimate responsibility.

My point is we don't need Skinner to direct our discussions. We are adults, we can come up with our own discussion points. That is a wellspring of creativity. Why do you think we need a daddy to come up with our talking points for us?

I'm so sorry if you feel nobody cares about your hurt. I can assure you that, given our commitment to the homeless in New Haven, you can count on us to care. Please take that to your heart.

You are in our thoughts and prayers...
