We all inhabit this small planet. We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children's future.
And we are all mortal.

Just had that in my head this morning.

Here's the rest, if you wish to read some great oratory:

Cheers.

1. I am not so sure about the
"cherish our children's future" when the repugs vote against things that would insure that future to be a good one.

5. When listening to the leaders from the past I'm struck by their respectful tone
and their humility.

. . . FDR after the Pearl Harbor attacks compared to Bush atop a pile of rubble and humanity with a bullhorn after 9-11.

9. Rec for one of the greatest speeches ever.
Kennedy was amazing. I love this speech even more than the "Ask Not What Your Country Can Do For You" speech. He's one of the few people who has multiple speeches that really stand out over time.

I'd put this right up there with MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech and Ike's Farewell Address.

10. Bushco doesn't cherish our children's futures

And they would rather we not breathe the air they believe rightfully belongs to them.

And the worst part? They dream of immortality...Greedy and lustful gods for all eternity, brought to you by the miracle of genetics.

We have a cancer among us.

On edit:

"It is discouraging to read a recent authoritative Soviet text on Military Strategy and find, on page after page, wholly baseless and incredible claims - - such as the allegation that " American imperialist circles are preparing to unleash different types of wars…that there is a very real threat of a preventive war being unleashed by American imperialists against the Soviet Union…(and that) the political aims of the American imperialists are to enslave economically and politically the European and other capitalist countries…(and) to achieve world domination."

It is indeed very discouraging to find it to be the truth.

12. "Our problems are manmade - - therefore, they can be solved by man. "
"Let us focus instead on a more practical, more attainable peace - - based not on a sudden revolution in human nature but on a gradual evolution in human institutions - -on a series of concrete actions and effective agreements which are in the interest of all concerned. There is no single, simple key to this peace - - no grand or magic formula to be adopted by one or two powers. Genuine peace must be the product of many nations, the sum of many acts. It must be dynamic, not static, changing to meet the challenge of each new generation. For peace is a process - - a way of solving problems."

Is it a case of the 'grass is always greener'? It's hard to imagine having such a wonderful thinker as a leader. On so many matters, fundamental to the success of our society President Kennedy "GOT IT".

15. we are all children
on this planet earth and the longer we are at war with one another instead of living peacfully and working towards a brighter future as a planet we will always be a small species living on a razor's edge close to self destruction.
