Dems need to ring a bell on the floor of the House & Senate everytime another soldier dies in Iraq
... and observe a minute of silence for each soldier. THis needs to be done as soon as the death is announced, and the moment of silence needs to occur immediately no matter what business is being done except finish a vote.

It would help them realize that as they fail to take action to end this war, lives are being lost.

3. It would also remind CSPAN watchers that another soldier died....
Somehow we have to demonstrate that this procrastination for political purposes is causing the unnecessary loss of soldiers' lives....

8. A Post Deserving of The Greatest Page
An appropriate way for those who serve the people of the United States of America to truely Give Honor to one of their own.

Can we get a member of congress to introduce it as law? Who will vote against such an honorable way to Support Our Troops?

Who would be best for us to have bring this up for consideration and a vote?

10. Terrific in spirit ... pragmatically difficult.
If the family is not yet notified, the release of the name of the dead troop is a bad idea. Without the name, it'd be "another un-named troop" and lose some impact. The timing of any notification would be at the whim of the Cheney/Bush Pentagon... and that'd invite political gamesmanship.

Nonetheless, it's appalling when it becomes banal that people are being killed. And it HAS become banal. Each and every individual death, in service to a nation but exploited by the corrupt Cheney/Bush regime, deserves honor and recognition ... particularly by those without the spine to even risk their 'seats' to do the Right Thing.

15. While names are important, here all you need is announcement of troop #s that died...
Maybe Pelosi or Reid could open each session by reading the names of the soldiers that have been released the day before.

13. Or - Reid and Pelosi should start each day by making an announcement of
the number of fallen angels from the day before and have a moment of silence.

16. If we keep it simple, what could the arguments against it possibly be?
Edited on Mon Sep-17-07 02:48 PM by Blackhatjack
The counter argument that would be effective is that the inconvenience of stopping business of the chamber is outweighed by the need to recognize a soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of our country.

Sure would be interesting to hear a Repub argue against this kind of recognition since they pride themselves on 'supporting the troops.'

19. Why just Dems?
As hard as it is to believe, there are a few repukes, like Hagel and... um... er... like Hagel who also see the war for the travesty that it is.
