Peter B. Collins - Best progressive radio host workin' today?
Edited on Sat Sep-15-07 12:23 PM by bunkerbuster1
I've been listening to his podcasts, available from http://www.whiterosesociety.org/Collins.html , a lot lately.

Mind you, I appreciate both the fiery, passionate folks like Mike Malloy and Randi Rhodes, as well as those more level-headed, blow-em-away-with-the-facts types like Rachel Maddow and Thom Hartmann.

And maybe it's because he's got a somewhat (ok, criminally!) limited broadcast network--just five stations in the West--that I'm thinking he's incredibly unappreciated. I can't remember the last time anyone mentioned him at DU. And that ain't right.

The more I hear this guy, the more I hear the great line up of guest he's always got for every show, and the patient, upbeat questions he'll have for his guests and his listeners, I think we've got a really winner here.

Just wanted to show the guy some appreciation, and ask if I could get an "Amen" from somebody...

(edited some truly gruesome typos--sorry to the early readers...)

1. He's been subbing for Christine Craft here for the past week and i have enjoyed his show
the only thing i miss is Christine has people covering a local trial and everyday they've been filing reports about it so since her vacation started there has been no news on whats going on.

2. I caught that show. He also subbed for Thom Hartmann on AAR this week.
(just FYI.)

Guess I'll have to give Christine Craft a listen sometime. I found her 1240 AM homepage...

do you know where any podcasts might be archived?

7. Well, I can at least try to stream her show if I'm online at the right time
funny, but I've never actually heard Peter B.'s show live either--his slot, which is 6-9pm for me, is when my family takes priority.

But his podcasts have been real lifesavers for my longish commute.

11. I'm listening to his critique of Barak Obama as I type.
Edited on Sat Sep-15-07 01:56 PM by bunkerbuster1
I've read a SHITLOAD of ultra-critical, anti-Obama posts here in DU. I'd dismissed most of them.

Truth is, Obama has been my go-to guy for the past half-year or so. I'm pulling for the guy. I figure he's our best shot, and I want somethin' fierce for him to win the nomination.

And yet, I'm listening to the 9/14 show, at around the 1:13 mark, and here's Peter B. talking to an intelligent, informed listener about his very serious issues with the man.

He's got a point. I'll listen some more. That, mein freund, is what's brilliant about Peter B.

4. I agree that he's underrated
Edited on Sat Sep-15-07 11:50 AM by CaseyBuck
He is a lot like Thom Hartmann: smooth, calm, fair, and with a great radio voice.

AM620 KPOJ here in Portland plays his "Best of" shows on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

5. Great voice (he gets voiceover work) plus...
he always manages to be upbeat. Not cloyingly so; he's as clear-eyed as they come, but I always come away thinking there's a lot of great people out there doing good things, and I should aspire to those levels myself.

Or, at least, I can try to be positive when others are tryin' to drag me down.

he just seems to be on top of every bit of relevant legislation / activism out there.

12. Ok, I must ask--what means this "I would go on teevee for him?"
You mean that you'd be willing to make a spectacle of yourself on the local news (i.e., hold up a "Peter B. Rooolz!!!1!!" placard), or am I missing something that the kids say these days?
