Yeah! Mike Huckabee!
Never would vote for him in a million years, but he likes Mellencamp, The Stones, CCR, The Beatles. Rock n' Roll!

So here's the thing, it is compelling to think that the little town of Hope, Arkansas could have two presidents from there, but I think we'll pass on this guy. But still, he's got some personality. Not the fake Bush " I'd like to have a beer with that guy" ginned up BS, but I mean actual personality. I could imagine myself having a pretty good conversation with a guy like that.

Yeah, like I said, never vote for him in a million years, but at least he isn't a humorless vampire.

2. yeajh and he says some pretty crazy things about foreign policy too
But the guy is down with some good music. The best you can hope for with these guys is that they are only kind of crazy and not full blown batshit, you know?

3. He has one, major, insurmountable flaw - he has an R after his name.
If he is still willing to call himself a republic after the horror of the last 20 years of Raygun, Bush 41 and Commander CuckooBananas than it automatically makes me suspect his intellect and love of country. If he is consciously, deliberately choosing to be a member of the KKKarl, Delay, Cunningham, College Rethuglicans et al then he has no plans to make anything any better anytime in the foreseeable future. I will never trust another republic. Never. They have the ability to appear sane and reasonable until they take the oath of office then revert back to their masters' bidding the minute the swearing in photos are snapped.

We must teach our children to never, ever trust a republic. Look both ways before crossing the street. Eat your veggies, study hard, brush your teeth, and don't trust a repug. Ever. Period.

4. I Like What He Did For Wellness
the way he lost weight and tried to encourage people in Arkansas to eat healthily and exercise.

OF course, if a Democrat had done something like that, he/she would have been accused of being "nanny government."

Also, I saw Huckabee on the Daily Show, he seems like a congenial kind of guy

destroyed the hard drives on the computers when he left office. Obviously is another guy who thinks he can do what he wants without any oversight. Reminds me of someone else who is currently in the WH. Also he is very bigoted and small minded. I don't see anything to give a cheer for him about no matter what music he listens to.

This is a democratic community board. I expect liberal views on it.

15. yeah, I made one post saying
he has some personality and I like some of the same music he does. That isn't promoting a damn thing, especially when I say a few times I would never vote for him in a million years.

I do policy work. Plus I have done work for a few years as a columnist. I have given advice and written policy papers for a few different Dem politicians. I have published a paper on neoconservatives back when most people barely knew what PNAC was. I'll be working in policy for the rest of my life, in fact. See, I fight for Liberal causes in the real world. This is a message board, that's all. Sure it can be a vehicle to activism and so on, but posting on a message board doesn't make somebody an actual activist, and demanding that everybody has some kind of ideological purity in their views while posting is narrow-minded and ridiculous. I post for fun and to relax, because DU is supposed to be a place where Dems can blow off some steam etc. It's a Democratic community, not an ideological cult. I said I wouldn't ever vote for the guy, so maybe next time, just so I can meet your ideological standards I'll proclaim him to be the devil and promise to put a bullet in him. That way you can tell I'm righteously liberal and not promoting they guy.

for approval first? Talk about ideological standards.

22. hell I never tell anybody how to post
damn we are in the midst of a stupid petty argument. I'd rather forget about it and move on, I'm sure we probably agree on 99 percent of things. All I said is I thought the guy had some personality and it was interesting that he liked The Rolling Stones, CCR, John Mellencamp etc. I also made it clear that I would never vote for or support the guy. Based on that, I don't think it is fair to accuse me of promoting his candidacy and to imply that somehow I am not giving a liberal view on the issue. Maybe I'm being a bit prickly, hell I don't know. Maybe we took each other wrong or something, but whatever, I'd like to just move on. More important things to do, you know?

7. Huck likes music and has a little band. However, he is also an ordained SBC
minister who tends to like 'dominionism'. If you would like to live in a 'faith-based' country with a good beat, then by all means, support him. But I'll pass.

14. nope, never said he was a cool guy either..
I said he had some personality and wasn't like a vampire. Not a ringing endorsement. I also said I could imagine myself actually having a conversation with him too. Now, for example, I think Randy Graf, AZ Congressional Candidate so far to the Right that he makes Cheney look moderate, is one of the most dangerous politicians in America. However, when I met him at an event last year we talked for about half an hour or so. The guy has a good personality and was pretty fun and interesting to talk to, yet, he is a hate-monger of the first order. Would I ever vote for the guy? Oh hell no. Would I in any way ever support him or encourage anybody to do so? No way. But, he is an interesting guy and I had a good conversation with him. Now Huckabee is a pretty interesting guy too. Seems like he has some personality. Am I suppose to just blindly hate the guy with my whole heart because he has some pretty absurd and dangerous opinions and stances on many issues? I just refuse to do that. Hating everybody out there like that will only send a person to an early grave after a pretty pathetic life. I got better things to do than that.

11. Isn't this the guy who took a cell phone call from God while
speaking to the Republican Governor's Association?

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. You'd think if he REALLY liked this type of music, he'd learn something from the lyrics.

:hi:

25. From the Countdown transcript:
On a Mission from God: Governor Mike Huckabee of Arkansas gets a call on his cell.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

GOV. MIKE HUCKABEE ®, ARKANSAS: I‘m sorry—I‘m right in the middle of an event.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

OLBERMANN: And tells his audience that it‘s the almighty with instructions for the Republicans. Inspirational? Entertainment? Blaspheme?

13. He's a real charmer
He destroyed all the hard drives in the governor's offices before he left office. He gave all the emergency funds to folks he liked before he left office, leaving NOTHING in the case of a real emergency. He is a right-wing conservative Baptist preacher, he's slimy and I doubt if he could win Arkansas. Yes, he can talk a good game. He's a politician, that's typical, no? I am so sorry he's running for president - we in Arkansas were so glad to see him leave office because we would never have to hear from him again. <sigh> And here he is. Hope the candidacy doesn't last long.

19. you don't think he has a shot though do you?
It's tough to say because there are some many people in the GOP race, but he seems like one of the longest shots of all. I don't think he has any real voting appeal. He's not a stiff mutt like most Republicans, but that hardly makes him Republic nomination material, right?

So what did he destroy the hard drives for? Was there any heat on him before that, or did he just destroy them preemptively to make sure no dirt was dug up in them?

I don't think it's come out yet why he did it - I'll keep an eye on local media - if anyone digs it up, it will be the Arkansas Times.

21. He might seem like a good guy in some respects, but he
will put the fortunes of the ruling class over the rest of us when push comes to shove.

He says the right things on many subjects, but bush also talked like a moderate before the election.

He did give a back of the hand to the pro lifers when he spoke of respecting life after birth. He was echoing pro choice stances.

26. oh no doubt
Good point on Bush. I heard a few people say they thought Bush was similar to Arlen Specter in his views and voted for him because of it. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Yeah, when I RW Republic party member starts talking like a moderate it's time to look the fuck out. :)
