How lucrative is dental hygienist for men?
For that matter, are men making inroads into previously traditional female occupations, as females are making inroads into previously traditional male occupations?

1. I've never met a male dental hygenist
Although my son (hs senior) aspires to be a nurse.

3. I guess it would be just as lucrative as it is for a female
I have a male hygienist, Tell you the truth, I didn't think anything of it.

10. So do I...
... it's a Father/Daughter practice and it's interesting to watch the difference in styles.

I'm a patient of the Daughters and she's always concerned about if something hurts and if I'm stressing (cause I'm a dental pansy). Her father is a force of nature once he starts working on your mouth hehe... Night and day between the two of em.

11. My dentist is pretty cool too
it's a small family practice. Two brothers, wife and sister and then Mark, the hygienist (he's cute too). It's in an old house and to get to the bathroom you have to go through the kitchen where they make the caps, crowns and dentures. Yeah, he does everything himself. No outsourcing. We're all on a first name basis, and it's more like a visit to a friends house in the afternoon. I like it much better than those corporate, assembly line practices that so many have set up. To give you an idea of how comfortable and relaxing a visit to his office is; I was once able to undergo a root canal with absolutely no anesthetic.

4. Interesting...
I never thought about dental hygienist as a prodominantly female occupation, but thinking back on things I've never seen a male hygienist.

I hear that it can actually be a pretty lucrative job. I don't see why a man couldn't do it or would face systemic discrimination.

My ex-partner is an elementary school teacher. Because he's male, I think he actually is more highly sought out, as men are rarely found in the occupation as compared with women. Principals like to have a somewhat gender-balanced staff. I see no downsides for men in the job market really. Women are the ones facing the challenges in that regard.

8. I have a male hygienist.
Never thought it was any more unusual than a male nurse.

I look forward to seeing her, more than my male dentist, though I like him too.
