Edwards Proposes "Brownie's Law"ensuring that senior political appointees actually are qualified
Edwards Proposes "Brownie's Law" — Has Nothing To Do With Girl Scouts

John Edwards announced yesterday that as president he would have a policy dubbed "Brownie's Law," named in "honor" of former FEMA head Michael Brown. "Edwards will enact a new requirement — 'Brownie's Law' — ensuring that senior political appointees actually are qualified to perform the job to which they are appointed," according to a campaign fact sheet. "Brownie's Law will require that heads of executive agencies and other senior officials have demonstrated qualifications in the field related to their job." It sure says something about the current state of governmental affairs that such a pronouncement could be considered newsworthy.

2. Hell of a good idea
He looks more and more like the people's candidate.

We've got to get over this loyalty to president over loyalty to country.

4. It's just a little bit insane
that we need a Law to require this.

5. Excellent! And his comment that if you give Lobbyists Seat at Table...they'll eat all the food!
Good for Edwards...he's getting sharper in his attacks.

6. Good idea.
Can we also consider a "Slap Congress Sill Law" where We The People make invalid any Congressional Pass on obviously poor nominees for positions? Oh, and we would get to make them stand in a corner with a pointy hat, go to bed without supper and ground them from junkets with lobbyists.

Edwards is making a lot of sense. He is addressing the real issues. And he is a clever campaigner.

7. Would it apply to Presidential Candidates? Only the "qualified" need run?
"Brownie's Law will require that heads of executive agencies and other senior officials have demonstrated qualifications in the field related to their job."
-----------
Cute. But should Edwards himself be rasiing the topic "demonstrated qualifications"?
How'd he do as a national candidate last time?
How's that job in the Senate going?

8. Haha...awesome.
 Way to go, Edwards!

It is pretty sad that we're even having to consider this, though. :scared:

9. We already have law for that- the law that requires they be confirmed by the Senate.
Vetting their qualifications is what the Senate
is supposed to be doing already.

10. Sadly, it's a good idea
The fact that this bill was even proposed shows just how much the Senate confirmation process has been degraded.

And yet, I'll bet there will still be screams of fake outrage about this from people who like the status quo.
