Spencer Ackerman (TPM) : "Gonzales, master of disaster"
We may never see his like again. Well, at least not until the confirmation hearings for his successor.

Alberto Gonzales, the Justice Department's master of disaster, has resigned as U.S. Attorney General. Whenever there's been a Bush administration scandal, the president's longtime confidante has been there -- from torture to warrantless surveillance to the U.S. attorney firings that ultimately proved to be his downfall. Two weeks ago, Patrick Leahy (D-VT), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, asked the department's inspector general to open a perjury investigation into Gonzales.

<good, brief take on the AG's resignation>

1. Confirmation hearings? Seriously? Like you think we will GET confirmation hearings?
I would bet that at 10:30 AM today, Bush will announce an emergency recess appointment.

And it will be someone so horrible, even WE will be surprised.

I'm thinking he'll appoint Karl Rove, Scooter Libby, Roye Moore, Harriet Meirs, Johathon Sharkey, Ken Starr... someone truly repulsive.

2. Gonzo got appointed by the US Congress. Not all is his fault...

If our country were functioning half-way normally he would never have been confirmed. The US Congress agreed to support his nomination and for that they should also be held accountable.

edited to fix sentence
