1. I am glad to hear that. I hope she is able to remain as healthy as
she has been, given her medical condition.

Somehow I was able to keep up on ALL the news today. :hi:

Edited on Fri Feb-09-07 12:32 AM by Bluebear
A doctor suggested she has 5 to 10 years of life yet and she is trying to stay healthy for the sake of her children. She is taking powerful antiviral drugs.

Or were you trying to be funny?

19. Hep C?
What did she catch it from, animal, vegetable or mineral?

There is a good question to be raised concerning celebrity hatred, though. I know I have zero symapthy for any of these people. Why is that? I'm sick of hearing about them. But is their celebrity their fault or the fault of our media? I do so hate our media so I need to reserve a fair amount of contempt for them. But there are certain souls to did everything they could to create their celebrity. They weren't born into it, they didn't chance into it, they sought it. I'm reminded of a comment I heard years and years ago when there were open auditions for the next big boy band. This guy was saying "Man, I would do anything to get in here. Cut off friends and family? Done. I'll never talk to them again." Wow. What kind of sickness is behind that? I guess you could say the media is enabling sick individuals in need of psych care to become public spectacles for fun and profit. Some of them are like Rush Limbaugh, self-aware and knowing what he's doing, actively working for notoriety and evil. For someone like an Anna Nicole Smith, was she an active player in this tragicomedy or was she tuned out through the majority of it? I dunno. I'm sure her death is a tragedy for what friends and family she has but I don't think it warrants the circus that is sure to come. Offhand, I'd say that Molly Ivan's death is a greater loss to our society and would deserve greater mention.

24. Yeah, really.
This has brought a cultural where a boy wants to abandon his family and hurt his nation just to become a source of idolotry. I sound like a barbarian fanatic when I say that, but someone shouldn't kill themselves on the inside in a way that the civic discourse is avoided.

39. I don't know. Maybe it is a good question.
Maybe people don't know that they maybe in a risk group too. I just blew up because I don't think that's a question asked of other people with other illnesses. And Bush politics has even had an effect on the CDC's classifications of who is at risk and who is not with this disease and I bet not a lot of people know that either. They are playing politics big time with this disease. And people are dying.

38. nope, didn't have a clue
Just have childhood trauma of her acting from Baywatch. Not sure how since I never watched the show. I think it's celebrity fatigue. You cannot help but get splattered with celebrimedia crud just by existing in this society, even if you don't read the tabloids or watch the military-industrial-entertainment complex channels. It's a sort of low-level rage towards everything lifted up and put forward by our vacant, cult of celebrity media. I know I was more upset with OJ over that trial than his having killed two people. There are lots of murderers who have trials that don't become public circuses.

I think what happens is these celebrities become dehumanized in our minds. We don't know who the producers and executives are who make the call on what the next distraction and public spectacle will be, all we see are the puppets dancing on stage.

43. they're icons of the system
Most people adore them. I guess it's the inversion of those feelings operating along the same psychological pathways. The only TV I watch is Stewart, Colbert, and Olbermann. Anything else is canned from tape, hard drive, or DVD. I cannot abide by commercials. Bill Hicks has the right view on advertising.

By the way, if anyone here is in marketing or advertising...kill yourself. Thank you. Just planting seeds, planting seeds is all I'm doing. No joke here, really. Seriously, kill yourself, you have no rationalisation for what you do, you are Satan's little helpers. Kill yourself, kill yourself, kill yourself now. Now, back to the show. Seriously, I know the marketing people: 'There's gonna be a joke comin' up.' There's no fuckin' joke. Suck a tail pipe, hang yourself...borrow a pistol from an NRA buddy, do something...rid the world of your evil fuckin' presence.

I tend to ignore news about celebrities that are only famous for being famous and not for any actual merit, so I haven't heard about this at all.

Nasty shit, that. I hope she can overcome it.

32. It doesn't *really* matter, I'm just curious
if it happened accidentally on a humanitarian aid trip to a third world country (which is certainly a possibility) or a freak accident or what; and I'm curious how long she's had it. If she only has 5-10 years, then timing is important: is she in her first year? Eighth year? I don't fucking know.

Hence the question.

37. Okay, I'm just bit sensitive when it come to this.
It doesn't seem like the type of question people ask of other disease people get. But there are many ways to catch it. Blood to Blood transmission is how it happens. She thinks that tattooing is how she got it. Sharing a tattoo needle with her husband at the time. Everyones' liver reacts different to the disease and there are strains that will kill you faster than others.

I think there is a lot of ignorance about Hep C today. And I mostly blame our government and CDC for doing a terrible job at informing people about this, Since most people haven't a clue if they are in a risk group or not.

40. my icon
I put it togehter during the pre-game show for Mr. Bush's War. We were pulling out all the bullshit propaganda stops I remembered from the Persian Gulf War, the first war I ever experienced. (Not as in going to like Kerry, not as in dodging like Bush, but as in being alive during the events that transpired.) That was back when I was a teenager, Christian, and Republican. I've never been a suspicious person by nature so I accepted everything I was told at face value. It was only after I started reading the history books not on the approved reading list that I found out that things weren't quite as happy as I thought they were in this land of make-believe. The whole "United We Stand" thing drove me nuts, this total abdication of reason. "Yeah," I thought. "We're united alright. We're marching in lockstep right over the fucking cliff. But to ask about the cliff is to doubt the Leader. Can't do that, no sir."

So, that's the tale of the icon.

47. read the thread much?
Pamela Anderson = C List celebrity I picked at random to poke fun at the whole OMG Anna Nicole thing. I thought she was hale and healthy, turns out she's got hep C and will die sooner rather than later.

Anna Nicole Smith = current dead celebrity in the news.

So, by making a post simulating the breathless Rita Crosby celebrity reporting crap, I was attemping to joke on the situation. Because I wouldn't doubt tha they're trying to figure out who the next dead celebrity will be so they can set up the satellite circus outside their homes right before croak time.

There's no link to a news story. If there were, this would be in the Breaking News forum.
