It is about a massacre of pioneers by Mormons in the Utah territory on September 11, 1857. Questions surround Brigham Young's involvement with this.I recently watched a PBS program on the history of the Mormons and they reported on this.

I wonder if this will make people distrustful of Mormons and affect Romney's candidacy in the process.

Here's a clip from the movie

4. It'd be pretty sad if it did.
There's a lot of reasons to dislike Romney. His policy viewpoints, for example. Or even the fact that he strapped the family dog to the roof of his car for a 14-hour road trip. But pinning on him what people of his religion did 150 years ago is pathetic. It's like right-wing Christians who blame Jews for killing Jesus.

6. About as much as the attack on Ft. Sumter should revoke SC voting rights
And No Massachusetts protestants should be elected because of the Salem Witch Trials?

7. Was Romney one of the gunmen?
No one can run for office unless they can prove that no ancestor did a bad deed?

Thinking anybody who would not support a candidate based on an incident generations before that candidate's birth probably wasn't gonna support them anyway and was just looking for a peg to hang the decision on.

16. I am not looking at how I would see this, I am looking at the rest of America.
Here is a religion that many people have problems with in the first place, and then it is disclosed that one of their major prophets was involved in such a heinous act. I would think that there would be some backlash.

9. Not any more than the suspected involvement in the assassinations
of the three K's and the massacres of many people in Central and South America and the permitted bombing of people and infrastructure of Lebanon - just last year. Nor the massacre in Iraq. By people living.

15. I'm from NY and never met a Mormon until I developed an online friendship
with one. She left the church before giving them a chance to excommunicate her. The religion is just so alien to me and the PBS show was fascinating. I also found it interesting that the massacre took place on September 11th.

are "different". Having their Prophet being a cold-blooded murderer depicted in a movie isn't go to help that image with those who have doubts.
