and Wife had own business. Some UPS or other Driver looked in window and saw mistreated animals and the STORY was here on DU this Morning...

I've searched through DU to find this but not come up with anything. Does anyone have a LINK?

4. Here's a media link...

...and if you need the DU thread specifically, the names in it will probably help you search.

9. Yes...That's IT...the original DU Post from NYT's making out these folks as Criminals
...and I just thought..trying to read through this horrific story....that it's so ssd that these very wealthy folks who had a 12,000 Square Foot House and Hubby was Stock Broker and Wife an Indpenedt Business Person would get themselves into this kind of horrible situation and that WHERE THEY LIVED mean that NO ONE EVER ASKED QUESTIONS...or wondered about their CIRCUMSTANCES!

I live in a community like that. You could die in your home and NO ONE would ever find you until your rotting stench alerted the UPS driver for something you ordered before you died.

I think these folks really loved animals but their mental condition deteriorated so bad they couldn't deal anymore.....I don't think it was Animal Cruelty the way most of us would think ...reading the NYT Article but more something the other links as "follow up" go into about this horrific story.

What IS IT? That people can live so alone in wealty communities and NO One Checks on Them?

Michael Vick and his "dog fight cruelty" comes to mind.

I don't think these people in this house were Michael Vick...I think they suffered from Mental Illness and a felling of BEING ALONE in their "Community" and no one cared so they kept taking in these animals..many of whom were sick and had no where to go. I wonder if these two didn't identify with the animals...and when their fortune declined they couldn't cope, anymore.

I don't know. The later reports after the NYT report are more humanistic towards these two...but who is to know the TRUTH OF IT?

:-( It's so sad whatever it is.....

11. It's really emblematic if you ask me...
...we have so lost trust in our fellow man (and it could be argued for good reason, given the corruption and treachery that passes for "making it" these days) that we live in total isolation. It's a hell of our own communal making, egged on by sensationalist and orwellian media that breeds paranoia and those palliative pseudo-relationships with TV characters that keep us from seeking out new warm-blooded friends. The animals suffer it with us, more the pity.

6. KISSES AND THANKS! FOR THIS!!!!!
I needed to re=read....because it sat on my mind all day...thinking about this.

You know why? Because these folks lived in an EXCLUSIVE NEIGHBORHOOD and NO ONE KNEW they had BIG TROUBLE! I think this story is more complicated than the usual.

I don't think these people were Cruel like Michael Vick ........I think they just didn't know what to do when the animals started dying and they were both in decline..never thinking they'd lose all their money.

I'm not sure if I got the read on this...but I think it just might be a story of CORPORATE GREED fighting with folks who thought they "HAD IT MADE" and loved animals but went into some Psycho Depression and couldn't deal with their OWN LIVES much less those they tried to rescue.

I'm going to do some more research on this...and THANKS FOR THE LINKS because they will help me!!!

:hi: ...thanks mucho!

10. Thanks. for links...I think these folks were truly depressed and just couldn't deal.
That they put the dead in "body bags" or boxes tagged says they CARED...They were both emotionally sick in the head......and even their neighbors in that wealthy community didn't CARE ENOUGH to look in on them or get to know them.

There are so many communities across America where the "Haves Live" and the policy is "Don't Ask...Don't Tell" because you "Won't Fit In." And who cares, anyway in Bush World where declaring who you are subjects one to abuse, anyway.

Not excusing these folks for not taking better care of those animals they adopted...but that there was something sick about them that needed treatment and not only they...but hundreds of their animal adoptees suffered. All because we don't live in COMMUNITIES that SUPPORT US When we GET IN TROUBLE, anymore... :-(
