Toys 'R' Us Pulls Bibs Amid Lead Scare (China, Again)
Toy Company Recalling Bibs Made In China
POSTED: 8:03 pm EDT August 17, 2007

NEWARK, N.J. -- Toys "R" Us said it's removing all vinyl baby bibs from its Toys "R" Us and Babies "R" Us stores as a precaution after two bibs made in China showed lead levels exceeding company standards.

The bibs were supplied by Hamco and marketed under the Koala Baby, Especially for Baby and Disney Baby labels. Vinyl bibs made by other companies have been temporarily removed to avoid any confusion among customers and to allow further testing.

Studies show childhood exposure to lead can cause learning problems, reduce intelligence, hyperactivity and attention deficit disorder.

Toys "R" Us is offering full refunds; information is available at 1-800-869-7787.

1. How in the world.....

...does lead get on baby bibs during the manufacturing process? You don't need lead to make
baby bibs do you?

I"m going to restrain my tin-foil hat comments, and just wonder out loud how lead can be anywhere
nearby when you're making a baby bib. I bet if someone asked me to make 10 baby bibs, my baby
bibs wouldn't contain lead. Unless of course, I found some lead, smeared it on my hands and then
made the baby bibs with my hands dripping with lead.

Nutty. Nutty as all get out.

4. Not entirely true.
My computer desk & bookshelves - made in the USA
The soap I use - made in the USA
90% of the food I eat - made in the USA
Computer software - made in the USA and India
Prescription drugs - Given the exorbitant costs, I dare say the USA

5. Are you sure? I've seen lots of stuff that doesn't even tell us the country of
origin. Instead it says Distributed by XYZ Company, and gives city and state in the USA... But god only knows where it was made.

3. The lead was discovered by a consumer who had her grandkids'
bibs tested at two labs. She said some color had rubbed off and she got suspicious so she got them tested.

Attention WalMart shoppers: time to ante up for products that won't kill your kids.
