GA to stop adding kids to health plan
http://www.foxnews.com/wires/2007Feb08/0,4670,ChildrenapossHealthGeorgia,00.html

Over in freep land, this was posted:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1781458/posts

What this article doesn't spell out - and they never do - is that the shortfall comes from not recertifying your kids on time. IOW, the kids have already been going without coverage and that's what caused the reduction in benefits.

If the fed allocation isn't used, they lower the amount next year to what was used last year. Notice they don't mention Georgia's portion of the money. It's only supposed to be federally enhanced, not on their teat completely.

Reallocation is in September. They will have to go from June to
September without coverage, that's all.

Question: The poster is correct, the article makes no mention about his/her supposition. Does anyone know if this is true?

If it is, does it matter?

And a great big fuck you to George W. Bush for leaving a hell of a lot of children behind. Asshat of the Century!

Citing finances, PeachCare closes door on new enrollments
By BILL HENDRICK | Thursday, February 8, 2007, 12:23 PM

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Georgia’s program that provides health insurance to children of families of the working poor will accept no new enrollees starting March 11, the commissioner of the Department of Community Health said Thursday.

Dr. Rhonda Medows blamed funding problems, including an impasse in Washington over Congress’ failure to renew funding for insurance for children of the working poor, including 273,000 in Georgia.

“I don’t care how they get it,” she said. “I need them to show me the money. Show me the money. I need them to quit with the blame and the rhetoric and show me solve resolve. I need the money. This is a crisis. I hate to use that word, but it’s appropriate.”

She said the department has enough money to “get into the first couple of weeks of March” unless families stop paying premiums or there’s a scramble by people now to go to doctors before the program shuts down, which is possible.

On edit: that whole "re-certifying your kids on time" meme is a bunch of crap. That is only a small portion of the overall big picture. Typical freeper dumbasses who don't know what the hell is going on. The State of Georgia has their portion of the money, but Bush cut off the federal part. Unless Congress overrides him, the program in GA will run out of money very soon. They are not adding any more children now and will only continue to cover the ones that are already enrolled, but only up to a certain point - when the money runs out.

It infuriates the hell out of me that that motherfucker can spend billions upon billions upon billions for his little war, but can't insure the children of this country.

2. If the numbers in poverty increase
Then last year's allocated amount won't be enough. If kids are in the system at any point in the year, the recertification date shouldn't matter. Sounds like a huge rationalization to me. Many states are having this problem. No coverage all summer, no biggie, aargh. God I hate dismissive fuckwits like that. Dump $50,000 in medical bills on that person's ass.
