New Yorkers, be ready for more flooding tomorrow
Edited on Thu Aug-09-07 07:34 PM by antiimperialist
If you live in New York you must have been affected somehow by yesterday's flooding that brought down the subway system. I personally decided to go back home and not work.
Well, there is a storm on its way carrying strong winds, and here on dark green are the areas where the most rainfall is likely to fall.

Yup, New York is in it, and you should make plans accordingly.

Let's hope the MTA does a better job keeping the trains moving.

1. I'll have to alert my puppy
I usually find him trembling under the couch when we get lightning, thunder and rain. He's a terrier, but a big two year-old baby. Oh well, another sleepless night, but he's worth it. And so cute! :-)

4. Have you tried the Anxiety Wrap for thunderstorm anxiety?
Edited on Thu Aug-09-07 07:41 PM by janeaustin
It's worked wonders for our Dizzy, and before her, Poppy.

Disclaimer: We do sell these at dogstuff.com, but you can buy them from the manufacturer, too.

I don't know if they are *Blue* though. :)

The key to it is to measure very carefully, because a snug fit is important.

Thanks! Does it work for flights as well?

7. It works for any kind of axiety, but Thunderstorm Anxiety is the one that
is the most destructive and can even kill a dog. (I've known two.) :(

I noticed on both of our thunder-phobic dogs that they both gained confidence while wearing it, and even "asked" to wear it.

It helps with separation anxiety and car-sickness, too.

2. Nah, don't exaggerate
The Queens Blvd line is notorious for flooding, but I always had an alternate route. The Brighton line was down due to fallen trees, not flooding.

If the MTA knows a storm is coming, they take action. This week's storm surprised all of us, even those paying close attention.

6. The 1,2,3 were a mess yesterday morning...
....but I made it in to work only an hour late. Worse is the fact that we STILL haven't been able to get back into our buidling since that steam pipe explosion in front of it three weeks ago....and it looks like we've got at least another couple of weeks before we can get back in. Hopefully, all NYers make it wherever they are going tomorrow AM without too much trouble.

10. Right on the corner of 41st & Lex.....
Apparently, we're the last building to get back up and running...The top floors, above 16 I think, have been able to get back in this week but we're on the 10th and it looks like we're out of luck until end of August...Isn't that amazing? That's over a whole month. Our office wasn't contaminated but offices on our floor were and we can't get in until the whole floor is environmentally cleaned...Hey, I don't want to go back there if it's not safe anyway....but it's really tough to conduct business like this.
