Markos Moulitsas Admits Working for the CIA

.......

After high school, Moulitsas, then a Reagan Republican thanks largely to the White House's support of the Salvadoran government, spent four years as an army artillery scout, mainly in Germany. He had begun to gravitate leftwards while in the military--its diversity had incubated in him a kind of nascent identity politics liberalism--and when he was discharged and enrolled at Northern Illinois University, he became active in campus politics, writing a column for the school paper and helping to lead the college's Hispanic student group. After he graduated, he took another degree, from Boston University's law school, and then, in 1998, moved out to San Francisco to try his luck in Silicon Valley. . Washington Monthly

20. I'm not one way or another on this but calling people "mentally ill" for
taking a position is not fair. That's a precise term and has very specific meaning to a lot of people. I'm not being politically correct here, just accurate. "Crazies" etc is fine but not that term. You'd find that people with mental illnesses are rarely as rude as the people on the internet that just let their hair down (on all sides, btw) and bash and libel other people. If this is wrong on KOS then let the bolgger bear the brunt but it's not mental illness that motivates the error and motives that you assume.

On the topic here: There's a specific claim in the blog, that KOS is not an immigrant. If that's true, holy cow! If it's not, we can assume that it is not a casual error, one inaccuracy among many factual statements but, rather, a central error that casts doubt on all the other assertions. It's really binary. Should be easy to settle that fact one way or the other quickly.

Whatever happens, KOS is separate from a good number of diarists over there who do a great job and make major contributions. OK, I'll stop now;)

"He must have learned in law school that they best way to convince people of group of facts is to create a convincing narrative based on a well-loved theme, like the “rags to riches” story." Isn't that the universal truth. I'm 1/2 way through the blog article. If the research plays out, we're in for a rokken few weeks. Truly challenging... I'm looking at it.

Here's my problem with that site:

No Conspiracies. No Fraudsters
by Armando
Tue Aug 02, 2005 at 09:36:19 PM PDT
Let me be the first asshole to tell you that bullshit fraud theories and bullshit conspiracy theories are not welcome.

Markos has said it. He means it.

I believe tonight was a great night and a sign that a Fighting Dem Party can and will take back the Congress in 2006.

I don't want to hear baseless theories on fraud and other nonsense. I think, no, I know markos feels the same way.

You want to waste your time, do it somewhere else.

My tip jar will be the fraudster's chance to troll rate me. Cuz once you start diarying your cock and bull fraud theories, markos will show you the door. With my applause in the background.

--------------------------------------------

What a silly comment and myopic position in light of all we knew and know. You'd have thought they'd read "What Went Wrong in Ohio" by Rep. Conyers.

I read the blog article. It's quite something. The immigrant piece is debatable since, according to the article, he was born here, left, and then returned. Immigrant (Websters): "a person who comes to a country to take up permanent residence." He could always say, look that's being technical.

But the bigger issue the family ties to all that doe ray me, that's some serious money and if he's wired into that, I'd say, "Oops" - it's time to yank him. That would be a blatant lie.

Those are my two issues.

Holland needs to fix the links in the first 1/3rd of the article, which has juicy stuff. They're all 404's. I presume that they're fine.

We'll see how this pans out.

Thanks for the post.
-------------------------------------------
I did get a kick out out the KOS comment that he ran a precinct for Henry Hyde. That's not Chicago.
It's...DuPage County...not exactly the mean streets of Chicago. Although, working for Hyde doesn't mean that he lived in DuPage. He may have come out to DuPage County from a working class Chicago area, worked the precinct, and then returned home. If he did live in DuPage, it's pretty upscale (it's also a hot bed for election problems over the last years).

US Census: http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/17/17043.html
(DuPage Co. first & then Illinois state figures)

Population, 2006 estimate --932,670--12,831,970
White persons, percent, 2005 (a) --84.8%--79.4%
Black persons, percent, 2005 (a) --4.1%--15.1%
Persons of Hispanic or Latino origin, --11.3%--14.3%
White persons not Hispanic, 2005 --73.9%--65.8%
Bachelor's degree or higher --41.7%--26.1%
Media household income --$66,697--$47,711
Median value (homes) --$195k--$130k
Persons below poverty, percent, 2004 --6.0%--11.9%

Maybe it was "West Chicago"

About West Chicago

With a current population of 25,690, West Chicago is one of the fastest growing communities in DuPage County. (Median family income $63k)

West Chicago is a diverse community. The first residents came from many different countries including Germany, England, Mexico and Ireland. Today, we continue to attract people from different backgrounds, enriching our culture.

Conveniently located at the intersections of Illinois Routes 38, 59 and 64, West Chicago is experiencing impressive residential growth and is a location of choice for commercial and industrial development. Economic development growth continues to attract new business interests to the area.

West Chicago offers award winning schools, a growing industrial park, convenient access to transportation, shopping, and restaurants. Through a wide variety of civic groups and cultural organizations, newcomers are quickly made to feel a part of the community.

34. Note - It's Chicago - El Salvador - Du Page County IL (near Chicago)
http://tinyurl.com/ypdwal

"Born in Chicago in 1971, where his Greek father and El Salvadoran mother met while attending college, Moulitsas was 4 when his family moved to El Salvador. They returned five years later, during that country’s bloody civil war.

“I’ve seen first hand how politics really can be a matter of life and death,” he said.

When he came back “to lily-white suburban Chicago, I was skinny and short, and I’ve always looked young for my age. I was miserable,” he said.

It would be a huge stretch to argue that he was. The stepping over dead bodies is odd (not impossible) in that he was so young -5 to 8 I think.

The money trail is the real kicker isn't it. Damn! That would blow some minds. But what I want to now is, what would O'Reilly say;) If KOS is a right wing plant, would O'Reilly still call him those names. Inquiring minds want to know.

If not true, this is one of those internet tear downs that are so awful. If true, the guy should get the Pulitzer for exposing a font of disinformation (meaning "management" there, not the diarists who work hard etc.).

I'm ill disposed to that site since they mock a topic very important to our party and one that I spend a fair amount of time on - election fraud.

btw, Did you find the CATO piece a little goofy? Seemed like a lot of bloviating about not much. What a story if true. What a shame if not.

Thanks for posting this, seemslikeadream, and for all your OUTSTANDING research.

I can't help but wonder, though, if the family member listed is necessarily feeding the "family" money back to Kos. His familial association with the Hotel & salt company doesn't necessarily mean he's benefitting from it. Lots of us have rich uncles/cousins that never send a penny our way, and who we only see every few years. So, based just on the research presented, the only real shocker for me was his association with republicans, the CATO institute, and the CIA.

This is a strange, strange world we live in.
