"Opposition" planning massive smear campaign against Bill Clinton
presumably if/when Hillary is the nominee. So says Dan Moldea, currently employed by Larry Flynt as chief investigator into the deviant sexual practices of Washington hypocrites.

Believeable, and not surprising. However, if and when the "oppostiion" does unload on Bill Clinton, I think it will backfire BIG TIME. That ship and its blue dress sailed a long long tme ago. Further, with the 2 GOP frontrunners on their 3rd and 2nd wives respectively, the "opposition" would be wise not to go THERE.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/07/AR2007080702078_pf.html

Moldea, who had started doing some minor consulting for Flynt, tried to put him together with Palfrey so they could join forces in hunting for sexual hypocrites. When that fell apart, Moldea quit the Hustler operation. But he tried again in the June memo.

<snip>

After a lunch at the Ritz-Carlton, Moldea and Flynt were back in business, with the reporter charging $175 an hour. Flynt offered another million-dollar reward for information about the sexual high jinks of public officials. And when Flynt mentioned in an MSNBC interview who was heading the investigation, he dragged Moldea out of the shadows.

"What are you doing? You just put a target on my back," Moldea recalls telling him.

In early July, after a federal judge lifted a restraining order on the release of Palfrey's phone records, her lawyer gave Moldea a 48-hour jump before other reporters got access to the material. When Moldea found Vitter's number, he called Flynt. Moldea quickly produced a memo on the senator's history of championing moral values and the sanctity of marriage.

Now Moldea is knee-deep in sexual allegations, and with Clinton's wife seeking the presidency, Moldea is again warning darkly of conspiracies.

"I have it on very, very good authority that major opposition research has already been conducted on Bill Clinton, and it's going to be a massive smear campaign against him," he says. A group of former intelligence officers, he says, is "going to try to cripple Hillary through Bill."

2. A lot of people yearn
for the days of the blue dress, when that was America's biggest problem.

4. The machine does seem set on making Hillary the nominee
They would have to work harder against many of our other DEM choices. Hillary is too easy a target. Hill and Bill makes too big a target for the smear politics.

Too many Americans don't remember they were vindicated. They just remember all the investigations and that will be enough to sway a lot of voters.

11. They will Swiftboat ANY Democratic candidate. They won't hesitate to lie.
They can read the news as well as anybody, and HRC is the leading candidate. If Obama or Edwards were leading, then the Rethugs would be planning a different smear campaign. No one is immune.

For the love of...
Who gives a rip already. Hillary has not even won the nomination. If the repukes want to strike now or later, they will. If this kind of moral pandering can work again, after 8 years of Bush, then it will.

The fact of the matter is that we as DEMOCRATS still haven't made up our mind about who we want sitting in that office. Until we do this whole thread is a waste of time.

9. I think it's wise to for any candidate
to have a heads-up on what's coming at them and have their response ready, even possibly pre-empt thus prevent that line of attack.

All of them, whomever does emerge, should be prepared for the kind of shit that will inevitably be tossed their way and ready to toss it back harder and faster. Had Kerry had an immediate response and smackdown for the Swiftboat Liars, they wouldn't have gotten the attention they did for the amount of time they did, and wouldn't have been as effective in their filthy aim.

This particular line of attack against Hillary shows how truly desperate and silly the "opposition" is.

6. Last time they attacked Bill, his approval ratings stayed high
Most people saw it as the witch hunt it was. I think now the reason would be to send the message "remember how sick you were of the partisan witch hunt last time??? now it starts all over!"

It has not as much to do with Bill, as it does with people just being tired of seeing the attack machine. And that just may turn people off.

7. the "opposition" is planning a massive smear campaign against whoever becomes the Dem nominee
folks always take the eventual intensity of their bullshit as a weakness of the eventual candidate, but the republicans are shameless muckrakers

12. Exactly. HRC is the frontrunner now, which is the only reason
she is the current target.

10. Don't assume the attacks will only involve ancient history.
What are the odds that after being a hound while Governor of Arkansas and President, Clinton abruptly started behaving once he was out of office? His personal behavior may not be pertinent, but the fact that a certain percentage of people will be preoccupied with his personal behavior is. With all the talent available that isn't carrying this baggage, do we really want to spend the campaign and the administration preoccupied defending the Clenis's right to privacy?

13. Bill Clinton and Monica. Monica and the blue dress. Bill and Monica.
DNA on the blue dress. BJ in a corridor of the White House. BLAH BLAH BLAH. Old news.

And yet, despite what a degenerate Bill Clinton is, he and Hillary have stayed married all these years, raised a very nice young lady who has a lot more class than the Bush Twins put together, and have held their heads high during hard times.

Bill and Hillary have made it through investigations that turned up nothing, they've faced accusations, rumours, lies, and they still made it through it all.

Besides, Bill isn't running for President, it would be Hillary, and I don't think the GOP wants us to look too deeply into the wives of the GOP front runners, I hear there are a few stories there as well...

Get over it, Republicans, your days are numbered. Karma is knocking on your door, telling you it's time for you to give your pictures back.

14. They will
attack and lie about ANY candidate who gets the nomination.

The Clintons have shown they know how to counter those attacks better than anyone else.
