People speculating that Tamm might be Deepmodem
People speculating that Tamm might be Deepmodem:

It seems possible that the DOJ was notified about the postings at TPM Muckraker and traced them back to Thomas Tamm's house. That is why they confiscated his computer and his children's laptops, all likely using the same Internet service provider.

This investigation by the Bush Administration has been quiet for almost a year and a half, and suddenly when more information is revealed through blog postings, it kicks into high gear again.

The timing makes me think the two are related.

5. If DOJ/FBI had ISP taps on Tamm....
they had a list of all the web sites he visited, all the email
addresses he sent to/recieved from, and very importantly, the IP address
and MAC address of his computers (including his service provider)and could have
simply asked his ISP for all this information rather than doing
an explicit tap on his Internet traffic.

I don't know if Tamm was deep modem, but am just indicating how easy
it is to trace someone via their internet activity.

I sent an email to TPM asking them if they retained their server logs
that show which IP addresses come to the site, and never got a response.

9. And if he is, the first thing a Democratic president should do is give him
a medal and a pardon. It's time we had an Oliver North of our own to defend.

I saw that and didn't make the connection.

That is GOOD news. No?

I think this is bad stuff but only making them dig a deeper hole for themselves to get out of.

12. They're going to dig they're own grave.
Of course this is bad news. More bad news than average Americans, even, are going to put up with.

My take on this is they're screwing themselves. Even freepers don't want to be spied upon.

It's a bad day. But they can only dig so deep before they find themselves in a deep pit.

Of course we could be doing something productive, and they could be using military spending on health care and economic development on things like renewable energy. It's ALL bad. I wouldn't be on DU if Kucinich were president. I'd be in my shop inventing stuff.

We're on the same page. But I see light at the end of this dark tunnel. Hopefully? :)

34. And how many American citizens will actually be aware of this supposed little detail
regarding his arrest? They have done far worse and have yet to actually have to face any true criminal charges that will hold.

But the spying won't. That's the hole I'm talking about. Because I guarantee that in some form it will continue on long after the six month sunset.

Maybe I'm full of it. But this is a big deal for most people. Being spied upon is not taken lightly by even the dullest of our neighbors. And this will also enforce, I think, the measures Feingold is making in the Senate. Once censure is on the record, these will be the details that further their agenda toward impeachment. I hope I'm not just dreaming here.

40. I hope your not dreaming either, I honestly feel impeachment is the only
way to stop those that hold the strings so to speak on the puppet that pretends to run this country. I believe that if he is not impeached for all he has done another similar puppet will surely take his place knowing full well there are no consequences to face regarding the ever mounting offences he and those behind him continue to reap on this country in thier obvious attempt to gain complete and utter power in not only this country but beyond it's borders.

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2006/11/29/the-civil-war-at-home/
1.November 29th,
2006
11:42 am It is not yet a civil war. It won’t be a civil war until there are two armies, one from the north, one from the south. The two armies must wear blue and gray respectively, and must be led by U.S. Grant and Robert E. Lee. Only then will it meet our definition of a civil war.

Name: Thomas M. Tamm
Hometown: Potomac, Maryland USA

Dear Eric: Is not the administration's position that they would not permit the U.S. Attorney to prosecute a Congressional Contempt referral an implicit admission that they allow politics to impact prosecutions? They are admitting that they would interfere with the independent judgment of a prosecutor on a specific case. I suggest that this is precisely what the firings of the U.S. Attorneys are ultimately about. Yes, they serve at the pleasure of the president, but they do not prosecute at the pleasure of the president. The White House is guilty of taking the blindfold off lady justice, not just covering her breasts. I am a former DOJ lawyer, for what that is worth.

I wonder if someone can do an analysis of this style of writing to that of deep modem see if there are any similarities.

Just seems like once again they are shutting up one of their opponents. I'd be willing to believe he most certainly is Deep Modem.

35. It's time for "Grey-mailing" the DOJ & NSA....
How exactly are they going to prosecute somebody with this illegal domestic spying program leak claim, without disclosing loads of information about these black programs that the government doesn't want to make public.

Anybody they charge is going to grey-mail the US government with discovery motions for everything about the illegal spying programs. It will be the worst nightmare situation for the Bush Administration. And what we in the Net roots do, is raise about a million or ten in defense money, so a law firm can go after these secret programs, in defense of the leaker.

Then we elect a Democratic President and he immediately pardons the whistle-blower. Libby in reverse.

torture him in secret....do whatever in the hell they want to... at the discretion of the prestzeldent. That is why the Patriot Act and the Dept. of Homeland Security Act need to be repealed.

31. That was my first thought
How could someone who "knows the workings of the warrantless spying inside and out" get caught posting on a message baord?

It makes no sense.

Hell, I know enough to go to the library if I'm ever going to post something controversial or "dangerous".

He could have used an Internet café close to his home or an anonymous web server from a a WLAN hotspot.

Either way, they could have caught him if he was under prior surveillance.

He may have been suspected beforehand.

He has valuable information about Bush / GOP crimes and shouldn't be silenced.

I'd much prefer to see them acting on this and cultivating this guy as a source than wasting time on trying to undo the damage they did on the FISA bill.

But the boneheads are on vacation.

Deepmodem might be James D. Cowie also (the guy that brought the lawsuit with the Maine Public Utilities Commision)? I found this posting that speculates he/she is Cowie, http://cannonfire.blogspot.com/2007/07/more-on-mystery-poster.html

Since it is a very complicated story, I have to leave it up to those that have more experience as I am not able to descipher through the government legalese.
