Edited on Tue Jan-23-07 03:31 PM by ck4829
Alright, so you're in a debate with a RW'er, and it's obvious you're beating the pants off him.

And then out of the blue he says "Yeah, well, ..."

What has been the most silliest or ridiculous point you have heard a RW'er make in order to try to win the argument?

They never elaborate much after going over the cliff with this particular phrase.

5. "George Bush is a man of God, and sometimes God works in mysterious ways."
I was speechless.

I think I responded, "It's important that you believe that" in a very condescending tone, and then I looked at them like they were nuts. I've used this a few times with RWers. They aren't really sure what I mean, but I assure you it isn't complimentary toward them! ;)

10. "Things changed on 9/11"
Of course they changed, no disputing that. But they use it as a rubber stamp to ANYTHING you say about Bush or the current crop of Republicans. It doesn't matter if its foreign policy, domestic, taxes, gasoline, environment, etc. etc. etc. - once you get them in the corner they spout "well, things changed on 9/11 and that's why we are doing it this way".

That kills me.

No matter how bad * gets, the last resort answer is always "Clinton did this" or "Clinton did that." Their examples are usually RW talking points - not actual facts, so my response is, "Even if that were true, so what? So what if Clinton did it? Why does that excuse Bush's behavior?" :eyes:

the righty's primary objection to single payer was "we would all be waiting in long lines".

67. Actually, there is something to this.

Found minor skin cancer when I was in the HMO. Took six weeks to get it worked on.

Broke my hand a few weeks ago while I have Point-Of-Service insurance. Saw specialist five days later. Had surgery one week after breaking the hand.

While it is ridiculous treating medical treatment like a luxury item, I don't want to see us go the HMO route either which is what the taxpayer-funded, single-payer option looks like to me. Right now the HMOs are screwing everything up in the attempt to make a profit. Were it in gov't hands it would be screwed up by Republics and the Media to "prevent waste". So we have to take the potential for fraud out of the picture.

And the only way to do that is with a complete overhaul of the system, not by throwing a bandage on it. Open up enough public hospitals to drive all but the most exclusive privates out of business. Put the MDs on salary and let them DO WHAT THEY THINK IS BEST knowing they're going to get paid a set salary regardless.

or Clinton's economy was good because Reaganomics made things good for Clinton. We are fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them here. The insurgents are going to launch an amphibious attack of america if will don't stay the course. God made GW prezinut. God is on our side which is why we are winning the war on Iraq. There hasn't been another attack since 9/11. I can't join the military, I need to protect my seed for future generations of Conservatives like me but I'm doing my part to support the war by posting on this forum and showing the liberals as the lier's they are. Reagan never told a lie and neither has GW. Liberals destroyed the country under FDR. Fdr only got out of the depression because of WW 2. Bill Clinton planned to attack Iraq but the republicans stopped him from doing it. Iraq is no different then Clinton going into Bosnia or Somalia. Clinton started the war in Iraq, GW was left to clean up the mess. It's ok that GW lied about WMD's Clinton lied about the blue dress, besides the Iraqis smuggled the WMD's out of Iraq with the help of the USSR. Just some of the stuff I've seen and heard.

63. You can't believe polls
Just this week. When asked, "When are you going to leave the looney fringe 30% and come over to our side, the majority?"

He said, "You can't believe polls from the liberal media. Bush is still popular" This was said this week.

When asked about the recent election, "That was about Congress & corruption. Has nothing to do with Bush. The GOP got caught acting like Democrats."

"They lost because everything was going so well that Republicans became complacent with voting and decided not to go to the polls this year. Besides, the Republicans can't win all the time!"

72. But,, Clinton did _________!!!!
Or Teddy Kennedy, or insert other Democratic person here.

News flash for any lurking Freepers: Just because someone else did something first, it doesn't mean it's ok for your guy to do it too, and it DEFINITELY doesn't mean that your guy has the right to do everything else bad he wants with impunity. It just means that our guy AND your guy were both bad.

My second favorite freeper response to an argument goes something like this: "Shut up, you faggot liberal pinko Saddam-lover!" When you see that, that's when you know you've really got them backed into a corner. :-)

76. "It'd be news if it were on the Daily Show..."
This, after I refuted a junk e-mail he had sent around.

He said it was "news", not opinion, because it said DENVER POST at the top. Like someone couldn't type that.

I replied, it's not news, it's a blatantly obvious chain e-mail that's been circulating for over a decade.

Then he delievered that bon mot.

Whatever, dude. Dumbass.

Often used of Thatcher, and I believe also of Bush.

For the love of God, don't push him off on us.

Also...

Liberals want to raise taxes.
Fight them over there, so we don't have to fight them over here.
If you aren't behind our troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
There are people in this world who want to kill us all.
There hasn't been another terrorist attack on our soil since 9/11.
Terrorists love liberals.

84. Kerry's Purple Heart was just a publicity stunt.
I can't recall the exact words used in that particular piece of tortured pretzel logic, but the basic premise was that John Kerry deliberately impaled himself on a piece of shrapnel in Vietnam with the express purpose of flaunting his ill-gotten award in a presidential bid 40 years hence.

85. I've posted this before, but...
A co-worker of mine was ranting about Clinton. So we asked him what his beef was with the big dawg and he brought up Monica and the fact that Bill was married at the time and how appalling that was, blah, blah, blah.

I looked him square in the eye with a "you've got to be kidding" look.

In that moment, he must have remembered the time I walked in on his married ass getting a blowjob from our secretary. He closed his mouth, turned and walked away.

When he left the room, we couldn't help busting into a BHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Sweet.

92. Quoting Clinton as a source for their point
since they would go outside to check if Clinton said "The sky is blue" - and come back in saying "No, it's 'robin-egg blue', you're a liar!"

If Clinton told them "You might drown if go stick your head in the water and breathe" ... hmm, now there's a happy thought ...

93. "If we invaded Iraq for the oil, how come gas is so expensive?"
This one was heard more in the past than it is now, but grossly overlooked the fact that the Iraqi oil infrastructure had been damaged by the war for the time being, thus decreasing overall supply. Or that there are also problems with refinery capacity which are difficult to fix due to the expensive nature of building more refining infrastructure independent of Iraqi supply (a fact that I've seen cited in at least one right-wing editorial, so they'd have trouble denying it).
