33. I also saw the 2 trillion figure quoted from another source.
I don't remember where. On Charlie Rose perhaps?

I think the long term medical, AND reparations which aren't even included in these figures, might be even higher.

5. What could $1 Trillion have bought us in renewable/alternative energy?
Never mind the jobs that this investment would have stimulated here. Never mind the loss of American lives and casulaties. Nevermind the 100's of thousands of Iraqi's killed and the millions displaced. Nevermind the loss of our international reputation.

When does this administration's actions to wreck our economy constitute treason?

And these Republicans are fighting over a few billion for our kids healthcare....what a sad bunch of people.

Hey! Here's an idea! Lets only spend six billion in September- I'm sure they'll get by- and start a NATIONAL INCUBATOR FOR ALTERNATIVE ENERGY BUSINESSES.

Damn, the depths these people have gone to to rip off the American people.

16. Republicans are leaving the bill to Democrats
so they can paint us as the tax-raisers again.

Three trillion dollars in theft from the treasury (euphemistically called "tax cuts") for the wealthy.
Another trillion in a war.
And who knows how many more trillions in ground-level graft and corruption by the right.

Nearly a decade of evil and anti-American ugliness from the right, and probably six trillion dollars just gone.
Not to mention the lives and civil liberties lost, and our very electoral democracy corrupted.
And a sleazy, dishonest right-wing supreme court to wreak havok for perhaps another decade more.

Will that horrendous price ever turn out to be worth it just so that:
- a few million 'Independents' and moderates from the mindless middle get to see what Republicans are really like?
- Democrats finally understand how right-wing America's 'mainstream' journalism really is?

I honestly don't think so. But thanks DHLs.

What I've learned from the past decade is just what a bunch of fucking monsters make up much of my country.

19. gee, I wonder where all that money is going?
The White House goes on about "supporting the troops" whenever the accounting is questioned ... but I know there are soldiers who are getting something like $1400 per month (if that) -- so they aren't seeing much of it.

I feel sick too, BigBearJohn. Bush and his cronies basically stole that money from the American people. Someone here on DU a while back did some calculations about how big a stack of bills that would amount to -- how many shrink-wrapped cargo pallets, etc. -- but I'm too depressed to search for the reference.

listening to the news story about that bridge in Minneapolis, I was thinking of all the ways that trillions dollars could be used right here in the USA. Like to shore up our infrastructure so people don't die on collapsing bridges.

44. I've been playing this song a lot...
Anti-Flag. Play it loud.

ONE TRILLION DOLLARS

One trillion dollars could buy a lot of bling
One trillion dollars could buy most anything
One trillion dollars buying bullets, buying guns
One trillion dollars in the hands of killers, thugs

F**k the world, a lot of people gotta die tonight
F**k the world,
F**k 'em all

One trillion dollars to Africa, Iraq
One trillion dollars and it's never coming back
One trillion dollars could buy some bad-ass drugs
One trillion dollars makes me wanna kill myself

F**k the world, a lot of people gotta die tonight
F**k the world,
F**k 'em all

Until the sun burns from the sky
Until the sun burns so bright this world is no more
Sun burns from the sky...
And all the people are just dust on the ground

One trillion dollars could buy a heart, a soul
One trillion dollars buying nations - all the world
One trillion dollars could make the fat lady sing
One trillion dollars, what a bullshit useless thing

F**k the world, a lot of people gotta die tonight
F**k the world, a lot of people gotta die tonight
Shit loads of money spent will show us wrong from right
F**k the world
F**k 'em all

45. Here is a site that does give the numbers
what we could have done with the money.

The War In Iraq Costs
$448,383,657,869

Instead, we could have built
4,037,273
additional housing units.

http://www.nationalpriorities.org/Cost-of-War/Cost-of-War-3.html

As a Katrina survivor, the housing units seems to hit home. :(
