Iraq -1, Saudi Arabia - 0 ... Iraq wins first Asian Cup!
Edited on Sun Jul-29-07 10:12 AM by Texas Explorer
Congratulations to the Iraqis for their first ever Asian Cup win!

JAKARTA (Reuters) - Iraq defied seemingly impossible odds to beat Saudi Arabia 1-0 in the Asian Cup final on Sunday, providing a fairytale ending to the tournament and a rare moment of celebration in their war-torn homeland.

It's heartens me to know that all Iraqis are united in this moment! Let's hope they find some common ground for peace within the pride they feel for their nation soccer team.

1. They pulled it off without Uday's incredible coaching?
Good for them.

2. Go Iraq!!!
Hopefully this can bring some semblance of unity to a divided country, (although I'm skeptical.) Any insurgent who tries to attack this jubilant crowd will be ripped limb from limb.

And how great was it that they beat SAUDI ARABIA, who is most likely supporting (at least part of) the Sunni insurgency! A great win.

3. uhhhh....Kick? This is kindof a big story folks.
Front page of CNN and NYTimes online. Why the silence?

It's also a "feel good" story! Why doesn't anybody want to comment?

5. Thanks for the kick, India3. I thought it would be nice to
cheer and celebrate right along with the Iraqi people -- of ALL sects, Sunni, Shia and Kurd.

Sports of any sort are generally a rather frivolous use of energy as far as I am concerned but, having said that, I still enjoy and good game and a good victory even more so.

This victory is one for all Iraqis.
