All 170 passengers dead according to Record TV, Brasília.

13. The whole building is on fire
Firemen on the groundare battling a huge fire. Eyewitnesses say everyone is dead inside.

10 years ago in July 1997, a similar accident involving the same airline.

21. More
"TAM flight number 3054, an airbus A320, that left Porto Alegre at 5.16pm destined for Congonhas airport (SP), had an accident during landing at the airport in Sao Paulo.

"At this moment we can't determine the extension of the damage or the possible injuries suffered by the occupants of the airplane.

17. The runway was under construction.
It lacked a coating to prevent this type of accident, which they planned to fix at the end of this week.

19. Good grief
Give thanks that most of the TAM staff in the building would have left for home already. What's even more troubling is that it skated across a busy highway before hitting the building.

What an awful death.

That judge who reopened this airport after flights were suspended has a lot of explaining to do.

at least 200 confirmed dead. A truly horrible tragedy. How amazing that the aircraft crashed into the company building.

26. That is horrible. Tragic that this happens on the ground.
Airbuses do NOT inspire confidence in me. They are unwieldy and IMO much less safe than any Boeing plane.

28. That's not true
the A320 has a very good record. Rain, short runway and previous problems at the airport look like the problem here. Another aircraft skid there yesterday. This is horrible.

But the message here needs to be concern for the tragic loss of life -- sorry that I digressed.
