This just in: From the Texas Statehouse
After reading this, I guess statehouses are about as insignificant as congress & the senate..

This had me laughing outloud..

found it on a great blog I discovered..

Ah, democracy

A friend who has just spent his first legislative term working in Austin and watching state lawmakers at work has been traumatized by the experience. How come? I asked. He responded:

Well, so far during this session, two members of the House have started weeping on the floor, one has discussed his bleeding buttocks (I kid you not!), and another has ranted about old women being "buck naked." These people are not normal.

2. Old women can't be buck naked? I know a lot of witches that will be really pissed at that.
If you don't want to see naked old women don't look.

IMHO, everyone should go around naked more often. It lets you feel the connectedness you have with all of creation. Now if you don't happen to be beautiful in someone else's eyes that's too bad. You are beautiful in natures eyes.

Ah to see a coven of naked old witches dancing around the cauldron under the full moon!

3. Red State leges are hotbeds of nuttiness
I swear the local GOP gets the craziest, dumbest loons they can find to run for those seats. Unfortunately, they tend to win because of registration numbers and that no one pays attention to their state houses. Occasionally, it backfires, as the Republican business class in my red state is finding out. They recently passed a really stringent anti-immigration bill with harsh employer sanctions. Naturally the chamber of commerce types are now boohooing about how they'll be put out of business. Shoulda thought of that when they were grooming those candidates to appeal to the "base".

6. We Texans
We Texans are quite proud of our insanity...<g>...kind of. Why do you think Molly Ivins thought Texas politics were a hoot and half to cover? You should get the wonderful, leftist newspaper/magazine thingie...The Texas Observer...where Molly used to work.

We have some real nuts here in Austin and always have. We're known for it. Sometimes to the bad and pathetic and sometimes to the wonderful, like Sissy Farenthold and the Dirty 30. Our politics and our politicians...Eccentric.
