For the sake of our victims in the Middle East: Yes
For the sake of tens if not hundreds of thousands we have imprisoned without warrant: Yes
For the sake of Democracy in our country: Yes
For the sake of those who come after us: Yes
For all that is right with Humanity: Yes

And while we are at, let us eradicate the root of the problem: Outlaw Lobbyists. Outlaw Corporate Contributions. Take Big Business out of the loop before it destroys America, if it hasn't already. Our Constitution reads WE THE PEOPLE...not WE THE BIG BUSINESS's. Let our reps represent US for a change.

49. Happy 4th my fellow DUers...I add this little rant:
7 of our fellow DUers voted against impeachment at this point. I am not one of them. I hope our fellow human beings who live in the Middle East, who speak English and own a computer have a chance to ghost through this particular poll. I hope they understand that not everyone in America condones what bush and his gang of criminals have done to their region... To be frank here, I hope they understand that those 7 of our fellow DUers, who voted against impeachment in our little yet biased poll, don't condone those crimes either... they DO have their great arguments why America's own Saddam Hussein and co will be tough to remove from power. WE THE PEOPLE support their right to say this...it is called Free Speech, we understand their fears but we do not agree with them, and so our debates here continue.

To the rest of my fellow DUers: this poll is a great message, I hope we here and the rest of like minded America can build on this message. I believe that we can build it into one which brings about and passes a critical tipping point. WE THE PEOPLE changed congress on their Immigration Reform...proof that it CAN be done. (Regardless of how you stood on it, AMERICA had it's own collective view on this issue, one which they got behind and most decidedly forced a difference!) Now let's do it where it URGENTLY MATTERS and rescue both America and the Middle East from bush and his gang!

We here in the DU have understood for a looooong time that the bush administration does not represent WE THE PEOPLE....Now the rest of America, likely a clear majority of America realizes this too! This is not a partisan issue...this is an American issue with the crooks barely hiding behind being Christian and Republican. More and more of our fellow Americans see through that smokescreen, they are beginning to understand that the bush administration does not represent the core values of either.

Now is not the time my fellow DUers, to be shouting at our fellow American citizens, the ones who take pride in being Republicans. bushco divided America deliberately, our anger, (both sides), has helped to keep us divided! Let me point out that this middle ground concept has never changed: "THE AMERICAN VOTER WANTS WHAT IS BEST FOR AMERICA." That statement is at the very core of the vast majority of American citizens. It is a non-partisan, non denominational core value. Now that same majority is beginning to understand that the bush administration is acting contrary to that very important core value! It can be OUR COLLECTIVE RALLY POINT! I hope you all point this out to your fellow Americans throughout your travels this, America's most special Holiday. WE THE PEOPLE can and MUST speak out again!

Happy 4th of July my fellow Americans :patriot:

55. As a citizen, I want them removed from office
Edited on Sun Jul-01-07 12:46 PM by Strawman
That is what I desire. I would prefer systemic change. In any other advanced democracy these guys would have been long since forced to give up power. There should a mechanism to remove these guys that actually has a fair chance of being successful. About three-quarters of the public has lost confidence in this administration. The fact that sympathetic represenatives feel that they can't force them from power shows that our system does a poor job at providing representation.

I can't decide the legislative strategy of the Democratic congressional majority. All I can do is signal my preferences for change. I want the war ended, I want these guys removed from office. If all that is possible is some sort of next best thing to end those policies while keeping them in office, let our representatives attempt to make those compromises that are the next best thing and achieve them. When that happens, I'll evaluate whether or not those are adequate.

Their decision not to impeach may be understandable to me from a pragmatic point of view, but if Bush and Cheney guys remain in office, if the war keeps going along, if defense spending continues through the roof at the expense of social security (broadly understood) for working people, it is my duty to agitate. If they can't get it done and the rules are rigged against them, well maybe we need to look at changing the rules of the game. Concerned citizens cannot accept the fact that Bush/Cheney get to reamin in power and pursue their agenda. If there is no unrest, we're basically saying to our reps: hey it's ok we know your hands are tied but we're satisfied that you're trying. We really have to demand change or we're not doing our jobs.

look bad. I have totally lost faith in the democratic process. Congress has proven to be irrelevant. Investigations look good but are friggin worthless unless someone goes to jail. Bush, Cheney and the gang are laughing at us. We still think that democratic processes will work in an aristocracy. The joke is on us. Time for tea in the harbor.
