I found this article over on the MSNBC website of all places. Thought you all would like to see it:

“…Moore's critics would like you to believe "Sicko" is slicko. Those with vested interests in preserving the current status quo in health care have already activated their lobbyists, media flacks, think-tank mouthpieces and trade organizations to go after Moore and his movie. There are nearly $2 trillion worth of vested interests out there in insurance, managed care, hospitals, doctors, advertisers and salespeople looking to keep their share of the health care pot of gold…”

1. Well, I know Art Caplan personally and he IS on the right side
of the issues. However, he was brought in @ Penn by a CEO who was rather famous for getting what he could from the system. This CEO was heavily invested in the very biotech companies he funneled through the med school, took great advantage of NIH dollars to suit his own interests and, I actually saw him buy a 40,000 dollar bottle of wine at a restaurant once!

Let's just put it this way:

Art says all the right things and makes the university look good. And, he's a very nice guy, btw.

But, what goes on behind closed doors?

Just my two cents. What he's saying about Sicko is certainly all true.

2. You can't blame ALL doctors
When I get the medicare and BCBS statements I see what the doctor is paid. They start out with a doctor's visit 75.00 Medicare drops it down to about 35 dollars they pay 20 and my insurance pays the other. So in todays market 35.00 for a doctor's visit is not much. But then I suppose it is where you live.
