Code Pink member collapses in Lieberman’s office
A member of the anti-war group Code Pink who had staged a hunger strike in order to force a meeting with Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.) on his stance on Iran collapsed in the senator’s office Thursday

Leslie Angeline, who had recently traveled to Iran, wanted to discuss the senator’s remarks from earlier this month that indicate he would support a limited air strike on the country.
The 50-year-old woman launched a hunger strike to get a face-to-face meeting with Lieberman but was repeatedly rebuffed, according to Code Pink.

Angeline was 10 days into her hunger strike and had lived off of clear liquids, according to Code Pink member Medea Benjamin. At one time she was granted a meeting, but the face-to-face was canceled by Lieberman’s office, the group said.

Angeline is being treated for dehydration at George Washington University hospital.

7. You don't see this often but here it is: I was wrong about Code Pink, and I'm glad they are there.
Edited on Thu Jun-28-07 03:11 PM by Beelzebud
At first I was willing to give the Democrats a chance.

But after they re-funded this war, and caved on every important issue, I really feel stupid for some of the things I said about Code Pink.

Hold their feet to the fire, ladies. No one else is willing.

It is always admirable to see people who are open minded and willing to rethink their positions from time to time.

22. I don't always agree with their methods
But I greatly admire their passion. These women have basically given up their lives - many have quit their jobs - to end the war.

I heard a funny story from one of them recently. They were on an escalator in one of the Congressional office buildings and one of them was wearing a pink IMPEACH BUSH AND CHENEY t-shirt. A congressman was going the opposite way on the escalator and he looked over at them, pointed at the woman in the shirt and yelled "I HATE that shirt!"

She smiled and said "That is a sign of victory. We absolutely do want them to hate our shirts. That means they know who we are and why we are here."

Edited on Fri Jun-29-07 02:54 PM by piesRsquare
I'd want congressmen to LIKE and AGREE WITH the shirts, so they'd take the action we want them to take!

What's the goal here, to end the war (and/or impeach Bush and Cheney), or to piss off Congresspeople?

On edit: Flame away, if you wish.

31. The goal is to put pressure on Congress
So if a congressman hates the shirt, he is feeling the pressure. :)

14. HE IS NOT A FUCKING DEMOCRAT.
Sorry to yell, but he is an INDEPENDENT who chose to cross over to the dark side long ago.

He wouldn't spit on her if it could save her life. He is a miserable fuck who really doesn't deserve his office, and the people who voted for him in the last election now realize that.

26. True dat. This same publication lists Bernie Sanders as (I-Vt.)
http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/sen.-sanders-renews-push-on-drug-pricing-bill-2007-05-02.html

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) introduced legislation yesterday that seeks to reinstate a provision known as the reasonable pricing clause, which would provide the government price negotiating-authority for drugs that are developed with federal funding.

Why the difference? Both caucus with the Dems but were elected as independents (actually, in Holy Joe's case, the "Connecticut for Lieberman Party"). Why, then, does Holy Joe get a pass on the (D) but not Bernie -- who is FAR more likely to actually vote like a Dem?!

16. The Hunger Strike stuff doesn't work anymore
the point is that people are supposed to CARE if you are starving, and most people pretty much DON'T care...

There's a total lack of Empathy in our culture that was there 20, 30 years ago, that's gone away, not that LIEberman ever had it..

Don't go starving yourself ladies. It won't work.

You might think you are channeling Gandi, but if you have a look at the IRISHMEN who invented it, you'll see that most of them DIED.

Thanks for trying, but sitting in his office while EATING will work just as well, unless you need a lot of sympathy.

Just take over the office and I'll have your back, along with many people :)

30. I agree
Those people (Lieberman, et al) have no conscience; why would they care if some woman they don't know is starving? Hunger strikes do not work.

I do hope the lady gets better, and I think Code Pink is a great organization.

Ms. Angeline, I hope you feel better very soon and are back outside of Joe's office soon after.

Liebermen, when you're time comes to go to Hell, I'm certain the level you'll be assigned to will be decorated in nothing but PINK...PINK...PINK.
