Congress to hear the inconvenient truth. **Al Gore to testify**
Edited on Fri Feb-02-07 09:48 PM by MagickMuffin
“Former Vice President Al Gore has accepted an invitation to testify next month in a congressional hearing on the highly controversial issue of climate change. … Gore will appear at a joint hearing on Wednesday, March 21. He will be the only witness to appear before the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and Air Quality and the Science and Technology Subcommittee on Energy and Environment.”

1. Cool beans. I wonder if a lobbyist will try to pay a congresscritter
not to give their frank opinion after they see it? :dilemma:

5. Gore to Testify on Climate Change
(snip)
Gore's film, "An Inconvenient Truth," which focused on global warming, received two Oscar nominations this week, one for best documentary feature. For people who make a parlor game of guessing Gore's intentions for 2008, the appearance will surely stoke speculation that he may yet be a late entrant into the Democratic presidential derby.

(snip)
House Energy and Commerce Chairman John D. Dingell, D-Mich., and Science Committee Chairman Bart Gordon, D-Tenn., will jointly chair the hearing. Climate change has proved a politically thorny issue for newly empowered House Democrats. Dingell, whose district includes many auto industry workers, has been locked in a political battle with Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., over panel jurisdiction on climate change issues.

31. This is about the climate crisis, is it not?
Or do people think he planned all of this as a political maneuver too?

If he runs, IMHO he wins.

15. Some Spundit mentioned if Gore ran he wouldn't need to announce
until May 2007.

IIRC, they were talking about he had a book coming out around that time.

34. I think you raise an excellent point
Rolling Stone Mag has an article on Gore that points in the same direction. I think its quite valid. Gore is the only possible contender that has this luxury. WHile Dean calls for peace amoung the contenders, Gore continues on on "his mission" unfettered by the process.

Edited on Fri Feb-02-07 10:27 PM by Old Crusoe
That should be a LOT of fun to watch.

And as long as he's in town, why not have Bob Corker drop in for those hearings, if for no other reason than to hear what a REAL public servant sounds like.

Go, Al Gore. You set those GOP fools straight at that hearing. I'm rooting for ya.

22. Me too
I literally just got back from it a few hours ago. :) It was really good, I thought. (It also made me really wish that Gore had become President back in 2000. :( It was both refreshing and scary to be reminded of how well-spoken he is...although I suppose that 6 years of Chimpy's deer-in-the-headlights, illiterate-sounding nonsense would make just about anyone else look good by comparison.) But yeah, it'll be interesting to see how he handles this. :)

26. I mentioned to hubby how different things would be if Gore had won
but he sounded like he was sure Iraq and 9/11 and the Katrina debacle might still have ahppened. *shaking head*

27. It's hard to say
9/11 might have happened (although I'm inclined to believe that Gore probably would've paid attention to the PDB that warned of the attack...I could just be idealizing things, though). Katrina - well, I'm sure the actual hurricane would've still happened, and I'm sure there would still have been people who couldn't get the help they needed. :( But I'm almost certain that if Al Gore had won (well, if the Supreme Court had acknowledged the fact that he won :eyes: ), we wouldn't be in this mess in Iraq right now. :( And that makes me very sad.

25. I do have one problem with that post...
It says "the highly controversial issue of climate change", well the truth is climate change is NOT a highly controversial issue if you ask the people who are actually knowledgeable. There is virtually no disagreement among scientists. Of course developing policy to combat global warming is more controversial, but if we suggest that climate change itself is controversial plays right into the hands of the right-wing. It is not controversial, the skeptics have been proven wrong time and time again and we must not give them any credibility.
