4. I find it unbelievable
that 40% of Americans still believe there is any such thing as a "war" on "terror."

10. These are the same people that also think that police protect and serve them,
that america's justice system is fair and balanced, that people are innocent until proven guilty and that sex offender list's are keeping their childeren safe from dangerous predators. They also believe seatbelts, helmets and all other safety equipment keeps them 100% safe from being injured or killed. Your not dealing with people who can think for themselves and trust government to do their thinking for them.

7. at least is shows they can separate Iraq from the war on terror
assuming there is still a lower number of people who believe we are winning in Iraq.

15. yes, but
why can't the public make rational, sweeping generalizations? It would be more rational to 1)realize the war in Iraq is a complete f-up, 2)conclude that, based on the facts available, more people have animosity towards the U.S. and that this war is proliferating terrorism, 3) we are not "safer at home". For people not really paying attention and, consequently, for those that are, it makes more sense to conclude that since the war in Iraq is a disaster, so is the War on Terror.

9. 1 in 3 think the Bible is Literal History...
I think that's the figure I saw. Fits in well with the Bush 30-33% approval rating anyway.

11. Other things that about 40% of Americans believe
(These are from Gallup)

39% believe that Creationism is definitely true, compared to the 18% who believe that evolution is definitely true. (That one surprised me.)

40% have a favorable opinion of George W. (Again, that's Gallup's result. Don't blame me.) Jennifer Aniston kicked Bush's ass, but to be fair, the polls were taken at different times.

Slightly off topic but interesting, when asked about Jewish, black, Catholic, Mormon, gay, Hispanic, candidates with multiple marriages and atheist candidates, the only group that fewer than 50% of voters would support was the atheists.

13. Not surprising
the 28-32 percent that support the President, plus about 8-10 percent of other conservatives.

14. There was a poll in the '70s that 60% thought the Bill of Rights was written by Communists.
Edited on Fri Jun-08-07 10:00 AM by Tierra_y_Libertad
They were told it was a proposed set of laws for the United States and were asked who they thought might have authored it.

Republicans
Democrats
Fascists
Communists
Socialists

As I recall, the Republicans came in last. And, most thought it was "UnAmerican".
