Do Republicans have a front-runner?
I just read an account of the Republican debate, from Yahoo news. It made no mention of who was leading in the polls. Yet when I read the account of the Democratic debate, it mentioned that Hillary had a huge lead in the polls. Why don't they have a front-runner? Why isn't the media pushing one of their candidates?

2. Because the conservative republican era is OVER.
Write in ink with big letters, they are done. That's why none of their candidates has emerged as the front runner. The conservatives had their chance, and they have the last 25 years. They fucked things up big time with Bush, and it's payback time.

8. I hope that is true, but would caution against excessive optimism
I read that either Giuliani or McCain beat Clinton, Obama, or Edwards in current polls.

With Hillary as our front runner, my fear is that we have a continuation of the era of conservative Democrats. :puke:

3. Fred Thompson isn't in yet.
The media's ready to anoint him as the front runner, if for no other reason than because they're very frustrated with the existing mix.

4. They have a few problems...
While Giuliani might be their best candidate in the general, he has little to no hope of winning the nomination.

Also, large numbers are waiting for Fred Thompson to officially enter.

The Republicans are very split right now - McCain would've been the obvious front-runner in previous years, but he's just coming across as old and addled now.

Romney is probably the frontrunner, but not by much, and when Thompson enters, the whole balance is upset.

the will allow the Repugs to "pick" their own candidate. They don't "trust" us to choose correctly. They need a "Horse race" for the GE...and so they need to pick our weakest candidate. However, I don't think that the "picking" is over. In other words, I don't think who they are pushing now is who they will choose as the Dem nominee in the end. Remember that there are 7 months to go. That's an eternity in political time.

Also I notice that the pundits refer a lot to "General Election" positioning of candidates when discussing the GOP debates and various statements made...something they never do when discussing Democratic candidates. So I'm thinking that "they" don't want Democrats thinking quite that far out.

7. Look at their choices:
McCain - old, tired, sounds delusional talking about "winning" in Iraq

Ghouliani - messy personal life, "hero" of 9/11 has made a bundle off of it, positions on abortion and gay rights too mainstream for the wingnut fundie base

Mitt - looks like a Ken doll, fundies don't like his religion, flip-flop champ

A bunch of second stringers who will soon be cut from the team....and

Fred Thompson - resembles Creature From Black Lagoon. What the hell is he? an actor or a politician? He can't seem to make up his mind. And he sports a trophy wife.

The field is just pathetic, and every one of the top tier is carrying heavy baggage.

And what's really funny is that a year ago George "Macaca" Allen was considered the frontrunner.

Weakest group ever.

What, do I have to do my own research?

Rudy's leading, even with the Thompson twins in the poll.

I wonder what ever happened to all those 'pro-life' Republicans?

13. Rasmussen's Poll
Pre-debate though...

Ghouliani - 23%
Thompson - 17%
Romney - 15%
McCain - 14%

I think the Flip-Flop Express has finally crashed.

15. It doesn't matter who the Republicans have as their candidate
They are going to lose big time, and they know it.
What will be so funny is to count up all the money the republican donors throw away on their loser of choice.

Only Kidding. The media wants Fred Thompson. Looks like they are going to get him. Pukes get their little "surge." The Democrat will come out on top. End of story.
