The Republican candidates proved one thing tonight: The GOP is still FOS (full-of-shit).
First they desperately tried to tie Iraq to 9/11 and all of them claiming that they would still invade Iraq they knew what they know today. Even though, as Paul Begalia pointed out, CNN's own website declared that Saddam Allowed Inspectors In as late as Sept. 2002 (
http://archives.cnn.com/2002/WORLD/meast/09/16/iraq.un.letter/ ), they still say it was the right thing to do and blame Democrats for not knowing how to deal with terror. Giuliani, the biggest braggart, focused on this issue because he has nothing else with the Republican base.
Continuing on, the carried the meme of "elect Democrats and see what happens", basically threatening the voters with the choice of a terror attack if they vote for anything but a Republican. Nothing is so completely wrong than blaming your fellow Americans that they will lead us to ruin while proclaiming that their politics is too divisive. The irony was so evident while at the same time so completely missed by everyone in the debate and avoided by all the commentators that its like watching a bunch of primitive humans who don't realize that the air they breath actually exists and yet they stand their drooling as they suck it in and out making chimp-like noises.
And what was up with the proclamation of faith. For a minute, I thought the channel accidentally changed to some 700 Club Revival festival where person after person gets up on the stage and proclaims their faith in front a huge audience of jittering, jerking fundamentalists. I was sickened from this very public, broadcast display of personal faith and almost turned the channel when I realized that it was still on CNN. I was thinking to myself, in my church, they preach that faith is strengthened through charity and deed and should be shared privately with the family or in the church during mass. If you want people to follow your faith, you should lead by example, not by boasting how faithful you are.
I'm afraid that this election is going to be very much the same as the last one for the GOP. The theme of the entire debacle (I can't honestly call it a debate, maybe a new word here, debatle) was Be Afraid, I Believe In God! That's funny because we often sing a hymn in our church called, "Be NOT Afraid". I wonder if these candidates have lost their way... maybe Ron Paul would agree with me.
