Screenshot I took at the Republican debate

I would never vote for Ron Paul but the strings attached to the others
are just so apparent.

10. Somewhat sad but true
If the election was tomorrow and the two buttons were Clinton (D) and Paul (R), I think I might just push the dreaded R button.

Almost every single thing that Ron Paul said tonight had me shaking my head "yes," and several things Clinton said Sunday night on the war (especially the little War on Terror spittle that came out after Edwards reiterated that it is just a bumper sticker slogan) had me groaning and shaking my head "no."

I'm with Bill Maher on Ron Paul - he's my new hero. Along with Obama, of course.

I've been reading for quite a while now, finally got around to registering and throwing out some posts. I need a place to find fellowship in politics, seeing as I'm up to my neck in Republican Red Tennessee (and the most Republican of all counties within Tennessee from what I hear).

23. Velma, note that I hedged my statement
that I would vote for Paul over Hillary with an "if the election were tomorrow" preface. I am the first to admit that I haven't done any real research on any of the candidates. It's still seventeen months away from the election, so I think I've still got plenty of time. But aside from that, the war is the single biggest issue for me and for most folks out there. I like what Paul has to say about the mistake of preemptive war along with all of his other points. I did not like (understatement) a good portion of what Hillary said about the war on Sunday night.

The thing that gets me fired up when I see Ron Paul, whether it's on Real Time or tonight's debate, is that my BS Alert System isn't on Danger Zone when I hear him speak. Obama is close to him in that category, which is why he's my favorite right now.

39. You need to read my post again...
because I am not advocating the election of a Republican. I said that with my currently limited knowledge of the candidates and their ideas on the war, I like Paul better than Hillary. It is a hypothetical situation, "if the election were tomorrow." I would say that there is probably a lot of stuff about Paul that I wouldn't like upon further investigation. I also said in my post that Obama is my favorite.

Trying to threaten a new DU member into silence when they have done nothing wrong is repulsive. Get a grip.

18. K&R Neo – CONNED !
He will not get my vote either, but there are times when he should be supported for speaking the truth.

http://www.house.gov/paul/congrec/congrec2003/cr071003.htm

"Since the national debt is increasing at a rate greater than a half-trillion dollars per year, the debt limit was recently increased by an astounding $984 billion dollars. Total U.S. government obligations are $43 trillion, while the total net worth of U.S. households is about $40.6 trillion. The country is broke, but no one in Washington seems to notice or care. The philosophic and political commitment for both guns and butter—and especially the expanding American empire—must be challenged. This is crucial for our survival...

In Ledeen’s most recent publication, The War Against the Terror Masters, he reiterates his beliefs outlined in this 1999 Machaivelli book. He specifically praises: “Creative destruction…both within our own society and abroad…(foreigners) seeing America undo traditional societies may fear us, for they do not wish to be undone.” Amazingly, Ledeen concludes: “They must attack us in order to survive, just as we must destroy them to advance our historic mission.” If those words don’t scare you, nothing will. If they are not a clear warning, I don’t know what could be...

Let there be no doubt, those in the neocon camp had been anxious to go to war against Iraq for a decade. They justified the use of force to accomplish their goals, even if it required preemptive war. If anyone doubts this assertion, they need only to read of their strategy in “A Clean Break: a New Strategy for Securing the Realm.” Although they felt morally justified in changing the government in Iraq, they knew that public support was important, and justification had to be given to pursue the war. Of course, a threat to us had to exist before the people and the Congress would go along with war. The majority of Americans became convinced of this threat, which, in actuality, never really existed. Now we have the ongoing debate over the location of weapons of mass destruction. Where was the danger? Was all this killing and spending necessary? How long will this nation building and dying go on? When will we become more concerned about the needs of our own citizens than the problems we sought in Iraq and Afghanistan? Who knows where we’ll go next—Iran, Syria or North Korea?...

The conflict of the ages has been between the state and the individual: central power versus liberty. The more restrained the state and the more emphasis on individual liberty, the greater has been the advancement of civilization and general prosperity. Just as man’s condition was not locked in place by the times and wars of old and improved with liberty and free markets, there’s no reason to believe a new stage for man might not be achieved by believing and working for conditions of peace. The inevitability and so-called need for preemptive war should never be intellectually justified as being a benefit. Such an attitude guarantees the backsliding of civilization. Neocons, unfortunately, claim that war is in man’s nature and that we can’t do much about it, so let’s use it to our advantage by promoting our goodness around the world through force of arms. That view is anathema to the cause of liberty and the preservation of the Constitution. If it is not loudly refuted, our future will be dire indeed...

Power, politics and privilege prevail over the rule of law, liberty, justice and peace. But it does not need to be that way. Neoconism has brought together many old ideas about how government should rule the people. It may have modernized its appeal and packaging, but authoritarian rule is authoritarian rule, regardless of the humanitarian overtones. A solution can only come after the current ideology driving our government policies is replaced with a more positive one. In a historical context, liberty is a modern idea and must once again regain the high moral ground for civilization to advance. Restating the old justifications for war, people control and a benevolent state will not suffice. It cannot eliminate the shortcomings that always occur when the state assumes authority over others and when the will of one nation is forced on another—whether or not it is done with good intentions."

43. HERE ARE THE LYRICS FOR THE GOP DEBATE IN CHICAGO
Give 'em the old razzle dazzle
Razzle Dazzle 'em
Give 'em an act with lots of flash in it
And the reaction will be passionate
Give 'em the old hocus pocus
Bead and feather 'em
How can they see with sequins in their eyes?
What if your hinges all are rusting?
What if, in fact, you're just disgusting?
Razzle dazzle 'em
And they;ll never catch wise!
Give 'em the old Razzle Dazzle
Razzle dazzle 'em
Give 'em a show that's so splendiferous
Row after row will crow vociferous
Give 'em the old flim flam flummox
Fool and fracture 'em
How can they hear the truth above the roar?
Roar, roar, roar!
Throw 'em a fake and a finagle
They'll never know you're just a bagel,
Razzle dazzle 'em
And they'll beg you for more!
Give 'em the old razzle dazzle
Razzle Dazzle 'em
Back since the days of old Methuselah
Everyone loves the big bambooz-a-ler
Give 'em the old three ring circus
Stun and stagger 'em
When you're in trouble, go into your dance
Though you are stiffer than a girder
They let you get away with murder
Razzle dazzle 'em
And you've got a romance
Give 'em the old
Razzle Dazzle, Razzle dazzle 'em
Show 'em the first rate sorcerer you are
Long as you keep 'em way off balance
How can they spot you got... no talents?
Razzle dazzle 'eM
Razzle dazzle 'em
Razzle dazzle 'em
And they'll make you a star!
