Radio Host Under Fire For Comparing Commissioner To Monkey

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- A Volusia County radio talk show host is under fire after he likened a Daytona Beach commissioner to a monkey.

The Volusia County-Daytona Beach NAACP held a news conference on Wednesday, demanding the resignation of "Big John," a radio host on WELE-AM in Daytona Beach, after he compared Daytona Beach Commissioner Dwayne Taylor to a monkey.

"Big John" told Local 6 News that he made the comparison because "as Taylor climbs the political ladder, the more he can see his backside."

Taylor, who is running for mayor of Daytona Beach, said the word monkey has racial connotations dating back to the slave trade.
