I'd like to see some of these threads locked sooner, and those who initiate them receive warnings. This is a Democratic website and this is a Democratic President -- if you have other ideas, you're going to lose your posting privileges.

I gave up on DU about six months ago and stayed away probably 90% of the time I would have normally spent here. It hurt, because for many years I considered this place my online home. I suspect the site's direction would have changed a year ago, if it was ever going to change, from fighting a Republican president into supporting a Democratic one. Instead, the anti-Obama efforts have built and built until it is what it is today. (And I am certain I have half these naysayers already on Ignore.) I have no intention of donating any more of my scarce funds to a site that allows itself to tolerate concerted attempts to destroy this administration and the Democratic Party. Once my star standing ends next month, I'll have to see if I want to continue as a member here. I'm not sure holding real estate in GD-P is worth the fight, I'm really not, but I'll give it the next few weeks before I make a firm decision. I am sorry to those of you great fighters who see it differently, I admire you all. But if DU doesn't begin to turn itself around, I just don't want to be associated.

This is not a good showing for liberalism. The problem the people screaming in the GD have is not seeing how the impression they are making marginalizes them. They need more than a handful of people in blue states that want perfection to get anything done. When I got political minded and came searching for the Democratic Party, and liberal ideas, I found DU and Kos. I haven't been to Kos in AGES and pretty much stick to a couple of groups on DU now. If I had seen this kind of hateful mess when I came searching for answers to the mess our country was in I would have wondered if the liberals were worth listening to any more than the conservatives. What I found though was wonderful at that time and really gave me an identity for what was going through my head as someone stuck in a red state where "liberal" was a foul word.

Where will people go for answers now? If everyone sounds as nasty as Limbaugh then who can be taken seriously by people who wish to actually learn about issues rather than lash out? Sounding like a rage machine marginalizes one's positions eventually.

but they were not directed at a Democratic President, they were the more personal type ideology concerns that lead people to leave and start their own blogs.---that happened mostly in 02 and 03 during the run up to the invasion of Iraq.
Most of those that didn't get tombstoned in the process either came back or moved on to other liberal sites.

I am aware that nothing will be done by the Admins (if anything is to be done) until after the holidays. They are undoubtedly spending time with their families and friends right now, just as most of us are - and, as such, will probably not address any of the current problems until after the New Year.

So I am adopting a wait-and-see attitude before making my own decision as to stay or go.

I originally came here - as most of us did - in order to participate on a website that supports Democrats, elected and otherwise, along with party ideals and goals.

If the current trend of allowing those calling for divisiveness among party members, advocating a third party, encouraging non-participation in voting, etc. free rein, this site becomes a de facto anti-Democratic site - in which case, I have no wish to participate.

So here we all are - those of us in this forum - hiding in the basement because we support a Democratic President and the Democratic Party on what is supposed to be, by its own mandate, a democratic-supporting website.

What's wrong with that picture? Well, pretty much everything.

And if that picture doesn't change soon, I do not intend to continue living in the basement. It will be time to move out and move on.

As I've said, I am taking a wait-and-see attitude. And yes, things will be very interesting in the weeks to come.

But I (and this is my feeling only - I acknowledge that others, equally validly, feel differently) have no enthusiasm for participating on a message board that gives free rein to participants who openly denigrate the President, encourage divisiveness within Party, and advocate not voting for and/or not supporting Democrats.

There are thousands of websites where those of any party or persuasion are permitted to speak their minds. What made DU special (to me, anyway) was that it was a "home base", a place where one could express their opinion without being ostracized for being a Democrat, where one was, by virtue of the rules set in place, encouraged to criticize the party so long as they didn't encourage its dismantling or abandonment.

If that sense of sanctuary from outside agitators and nay-sayers is lost, then the reason I came here in the first instance is forever lost as well.

I am hoping things will be righted, that DU rules will once again be enforced as in the past.

Speaking of rules, I just replied to a poster who 'interpreted' Skinners' Happy Holidays message using DU rules. They used the word 'progressive' 13 times in their post, the word 'liberal' once as a pejorative 'latte liberal' & the word 'Democrat' not at all! Below is my reply to their biased post with the actual "Who We Are" paragraph from the rules. The actual rules mention the word Democrat several times and 'progressive' twice.
