An apology to HughMoran
...Who may not see it, but here goes:

I'm not sure where I pushed your buttons in the past, but I'm pretty sure I found our most recent squabble. It appears to have been a misunderstanding between two people with their hackles up, that escalated. I did nothing but exacerbate the situation.

I was at fault in taking your initial assessment of a post of mine personally; my coarse language led you to believe, reasonably, that I was cheering the bad economic news and as such representing the factions on DU that want Obama to fail at any cost. I was not, I was merely being blunt, and arguably crass.

When you suggested as much, I attacked you personally, if obliquely enough to skirt the rules, and for that I am quite sorry.

It is apparent we share similar goals, your presence in the BOG speaks to this. I hope we can reconcile enough to continue the good fight here and elsewhere without enduring rancor between us. There are few enough of us as it is, I hate the idea of alienating even one.

Respectfully,

-Robb

1. I hope Hugh will accept your apology
and we can continue with our aim of starting a bog that will carry on discussions that take away the need to argue unnecessarily. Just as Obama hates unnecessary wars, I hate unnecessary words of anger. ;)

2. Hey Robb, no problem
I was alerted to the presence of this thread by a couple of fellow BOGers - let me say thanks to them :hi:

I wasn't sure I should even say anything in that other thread, but we are a little more 'homey' here so I mentioned where I was at. I appreciate the apology and of course am always willing to set aside any previous differences & move on with the discussion if the other party is willing. To be honest, I don't even remember the specifics of the previous encounter you've referenced and may have been a little short myself (it's been known to happen from time to time ;) ). So, the past is forgotten - I look forward to future discussion/debate with you.

:hi:

6. I am SO proud of BOTH of you!
I train people who do a lot of over-the-phone Tech Support, and the thing I emphasize is COMMUNICATION. It doesn't matter how much you know if you can't communicate it to the other person.

I wish I could take credit for this, but there was a video that explained the process of "communication" perfectly that I will never forget. It also applies when you are havign a fight with your SO, as many of you will probably attest.

Basically, anytime someone "tells" someone else something, 6 things occur, 3 by the speaker and 3 by the listener:

Speaker:
1. What they MEAN to say.
2. What they actually SAY.
3. What they THINK they said.

Listener:
1. What they HEARD.
2. What they THINK they heard.
3. What they think the speaker MEANT to say.

The advantage of text is that you can go back and read again what the person posted. I, myself, have gone back to refute some point and upon a second reading realized that what I "thought" they had written, in fact, they never did. My bad. A typical human fault.

But, still emotions run wild over the internet and I am so PROUD of both of you for realizing this and bridging your differences and misunderstandings.

If only more people would do the same........
