4. Great interview
I love his confidence - good to see. And I like his discussion of the ground rules he set up for the campaign and how he turned that question around about "lack of specifics."

Even getting 3 hours of sleep on some nights, he's very even tempered.

He can take the heat.

11. He really is a charasmatic man.
No one's up there with President Kennedy, but Obama at least invites the comparison.

29. Has some old Kennedy speechwriters..
From Sean Wilentz:

Despite the candidate's claims, Lincoln and Kennedy were seasoned politicians before they became president.

http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-wilentz26jan26,0,5561702.story

Few will disagree that it is very rare for a candidate with as little experience in politics and government as Obama to capture the imagination of so many influential Americans. One way for a candidate like this to minimize his lack of experience is to pluck from the past the names of great presidents who also, supposedly, lacked experience. Early in the campaign, Obama's backers likened him to the supposed neophyte John F. Kennedy. More recently, some have pointed out (as did New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof, among others) that Abraham Lincoln served only one "undistinguished" term in the House before he was elected president in 1860.

These comparisons distort the past beyond recognition. By the time he ran for president, JFK had served three terms in the House and twice won election to the Senate, where he was an active member of the Foreign Relations Committee. In total, he had held elective office in Washington for 14 years. Before that, he was, of course, a decorated veteran of World War II, having fought with valor in the South Pacific. Kennedy, the son of a U.S. ambassador to Britain, had closely studied foreign affairs, which led to his first book, "Why England Slept," as well as to a postwar stint in journalism.

Edited on Mon Feb-11-08 11:25 AM by ginnyinWI
what I'd like to ask you is:

What has Hillary Clinton accomplished? Really, what?
What has she accomplished on her own. Bill's accomplishments do not count.

15. I saw an Obama that I did not know before. He was tough. I'm sure he has been
tough all along, but I could see a will of steel behind that $1M smile that could crush you like a bug if you mess with him. I was very pleased to see that. Bambi with a killer instinct of a hunter.

16. An O'bot here: we need the same segment with Hillary too. It was very
interesting. Katie Kouric was pressing her on whether a thought ever crosses her mind that she might lose, and she kept saying no. I think she was lying. How can she never think of it? I understand that some people might think that she should never admit such a thing, but I think she was lying.

20. I thought so, too. You can see the wheels turning.
What candidate wouldn't wonder how it will turn out? It's a perfect example of why people think she's phony and don't trust her. If she would have said something like, "Sure I do, but I don't let it bother me too much." she would have seemed more real.

36. I actually understood what she meant in her response.
Running for president must be the toughest thing in the world, and any self-pity can sap your energy in a flash, and she was basically saying, "I can't afford to think negative thoughts." So in her own way, she WAS saying, "sure I do, but I don't let it bother me too much." At least, that's how I saw it.

21. Remember when Bush was asked about his shortcomings and he couldn't name any? Sound familiar?
I agree with you. Hillary has a problem with openness - she doesn't want you to know what is going on in her head. I think she would be just about as bad at giving us citizens the "real" truth as Bush has been!:eyes:

24. Yes, I think it's just that he knows who he is...
...and what he's capable of ~ probably has for many years.

In a recent interview, he said that his mother thought he was THE BOMB ~ that every child needs one person who really believes in him or her. Very true!

32. Easy to lean his way . . .
I really like Obama, but am remaining a Hillary supporter for now. Either of them would be great as president.

I watched his 60 Minutes interview last night, and almost changed sides. Then I watched the atrocious Katy Couric interview Hillary and every other word out of Couric's mouth was "Obama." She turned the Hillary Clinton interview into an Obama interview. Christ, I can't stand Katie Couric. Send her to Knoxville or something.

Sorry, Knoxville residents - you're welcome to make your displeasure known.

Listen, either one of these people will make a great president. Let's count our blessings instead of trying to peck each other to death with duck bills.

35. I feel exactly the same way about the Couric interview and
I was so pissed off about the content of it, in fact, that I wrote an open letter to Katie Couric and Jeff Fager

You can read it on this thread, if you'd like: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=4535447&mesg_id=4535447

However, I don't feel the same as you about Obama. I saw his interview and was very put off by his recurring smirk. I know that seems petty, and I will take some heat for even saying that, but after 8 years of the constant smirk on Bush's face, I don't think I can tolerate another 4 years of it from anyone else.
