1. Not gonna happen
"You know, I haven't ruled out getting back into the political process at some point in the future--I don't expect to, but if I did get back, it would be as a candidate for president--not in any other position, but I...<cheers> I don't expect to ever get back into the political process."

Funny thing about the usage of 'but' in this case is that it negates everything that came before it. "I haven't ruled out" is negated by "if I did" and "if I did" is negated by "I don't expect to ever."

His answer be shortened to "You know, I don't expect to ever get back into the political process." and still carry it's original meaning.

18.  And every day you dream the world melts a little more
I think it is way past time to wake up to reality and start helping in the solutions. Mr. Gore made the same statement anyone who knows of him would expect. What other position politically would he ever be expected to go after should he ever do so again? He has already seen it all. It was simply an honest answer to a question he has answered already thousands of time. I remember him saying a few years ago to keep our eyes on the prize... and he didn't mean the White House, he meant this planet. IF he then decides to go back to the political fray in the future after seeing peopke out here actually getting it, then that will be his choice and his alone. "Dreaming" isn't going to make it so.

10. Maybe I am a hopeless
optimist, die hard. but I detect a note of tentativeness. Maybe if there is no candidate with a clear majority or a deadlock convention, he would accept a draft or whatever the rules are that would open the door for him. Maybe Gore was waiting to have the Nobel Prize safe in his hand, so now he is opened to any overture.

3. I am not going to get on the roller coaster again
to much of an emotional drain.....Unless he says unequivocally "I am a candidate for the president of the United States" Then he gets it all.

17. I'm convinced now that his coyness about running/not running is to keep the interest level high
in his passion for environmental protection/climate change.

At the very end he clearly said, "I don't expect to ever get back into the political process."

I can't help being a little angry at him for not stepping into the campaign -- the presidency would be his for the taking -- & for not explicitly stating, "No, I'm not running for president now or ever."
