CURRENT TV Countdown w/ KEITH OLBERMANN - 31 Oct. 2011: Keith interviews Jeannie Hartley of the OccupyDenver media team, after he updates on the latest developments in the Occupy Wall Street movement.

HARTLEY: "What I witnessed was not anyone being unruly." It was a peaceful protest, "it turned into something worse.

- snip -

"It was extraordinary the amount of police force that were present before anything was, I guess by their definition, I'm guessing, unruly."

- snip -

"They had hundreds of police force, Keith, surrounding a FOOD TABLE. Hundreds of them, in riot gear. This was an unnecessary expense to Denver, by far."

- snip -

"I also think that, on a grander scale of things... is that people have taken to the streets because of so many injustices that have been in place for far too long, you know, with the issues of the underwater mortgages, and the corporate greed, and the student loans... and there's no jobs in sight, and the cost of the wars, unending cost, precious lives... People are in the streets because of injustice. So, for the police force to inflict more injustice upon us, it's not going to make us leave the streets, it's going to make more people come into the streets."

‘Occupy Denver’ spokeswoman says police injustice only boosts protest

By Eric W. Dolan
Monday, October 31, 2011

“Occupy Denver” media coordinator Jeannie Harley said on Current TV’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann that she did not witness any protesters being unruly during the violent arrests at Saturday’s rally in Civic Center Park.

“We’d had a perfectly peaceful march, a perfectly peaceful rally, and it turned into something much worse,” she said.

Police in riot gear shot pepper spray into a crowd of “Occupy Denver” protesters and arrested 20 people when marchers entered the Capitol grounds.

“People are in the streets because of injustice,” Harley said. “So for the police force to inflict more injustice upon us is not going to make us leave the streets – it’s going to make more people come into the streets.”

2. K&R.
She was a good spokesperson. The next report was going to be a doozy, too -- about the police (NY?) bringing in homeless people with substance abuse problems...what the heck?

Thanks, Hissyspit!

3. with the local RW radio egging the pols and police to clean up the dirty hippies and
then making excuses for what happened, from the same stations that broadcast local pro and university sports. all day.

as more students and faculties start getting involved in OWS protests they might want to think about what radio stations their administrations are broadcasting their sports on.

6. This was really good, but MY GOD! What was the story after it --
He said that there are reports that police are directing or even bringing homeless substance abusers to Zucotti partk.

Well, hell. If the dirty hippies won't oblige the cops by doing illegal drugs, let's truck some in!! Unbelievable.

I wish my cable provider carried Current.

8. That is their next step, dirty tricks instead of force....
The cities that have remained peaceful so far are using different tactics.

In Portland, the police (who I've praised for their restraint before), published the mugshots and names of all those arrested on Facebook. It's like "we won't beat you on the head, but we will beat you".

ps. nothing illegal about what they did with the mugshots, just unprecedented. No PD has EVER published photos and names of simple trespass violations.

11. Does this mean that some RW employer will be firing someone on the
Basis of seeing that person's mugshot?

13. I can fully believe the police
would bus in chronic substance abusers.

This sounds like something right out of the right wing playbook. There are many methods the right wing can use to undermine OWS in the eyes of the public. We can expect the fascists to employ everything they can come up with.
