A joint effort between British and Swedish medical research develops the worlds first artificial body parts using plastic molds coated in stem cells.

Once again, a government-run socialized health care systems disprove the myth that "profit-driven" medicine spurs innovation and medical breakthroughs.

"Profit-driven" medicine gets you "a better diet pill" or the next baldness cure, not medical breakthroughs for which there is no commercial market.

1. False teeth, peg legs, knee and hip joints, heart valves... A jillion artificial body parts
already exist. This is nowhere near "the world's first artificial body part."

5. Confused
Sorry, you're wrong.

What you are describing are "prosthesis", not "body parts".

10. OK. Restrict my list to hip joints, knee joints, heart valves, artificial hearts
ant other "parts" implanted permanently into the body, and not simply worn as appliances. This is still not "the first" artificial body part.

12. This is the first that becomes a biological, not just mechanical,
part of the human host's body. That's the difference. This part becomes tied somehow to the body's cell structure.

The artificial hip remains a foreign object in the host body. Same with the other artificial body parts we have known until now.

Didn't you hear the explanation about dipping the part in the cells of the donor or something like that? Did I misunderstand? I thought that is what I heard.

13. I agree completely with the article. I merely pointed out that the TITLE was inaccurate and untrue.

2. Not "body part". The word is "organ".
This is not a static artificial replacement piece, like a false tooth or artificial hip. This is an organ which duplicate that organic function of the organ it replaces.

Much more complex. And an astounding achievement.
