The Nation Institute's Chris Hedges and author of his most recent book, 'The World As It Is: Dispatches on the Myth of Human Progress' says the world as we know it is coming to an end. And what follows won't be pleasant or easy. But that the revolution must start, in America. Hedges joins the show to explain.

1. I agree with Mr. Hedges
we're headed for a catastrophe unless we change how we're living.

27. I watched the Discovery
Channel last night....had to drink some wine to get to sleep. Solar flares, the grid collapsing, the magnetosphere failing....it really reminds me of what a delicate balance our Universe is.

It's also amazing to see that a few number of extremely wealthy humans can really f*ck up everything. May they learn the meaning of hunger someday.

The paradigm must shift from competition to cooperation.

4. It is clearly the fastest way.
One properly structured and coordonated hunger strike (although, with only one very small meal a day for each striker), that would need to be massive enough that it would threaten the economy (in other words, the bottom line of the corporate system), and just a week or two after it would have started, the leaders of that strike would see the PTB and their paid lackeys (the pols) concede.

But it seems like the environmental catastrophe will happen before any such successful strike will ever have a chance to even begin.

29. Not just a hunger strike. An EVERYTHING strike
Eat one meal a day, don't pay your bills, don't go to work. Just go to your local town square and sit or stand up and yell. Or go to your place of employment and just sit. Don't work, just sit.

But almost everybody would have to do it.

39. Won't happen. Too many Americans are lulled into inaction by the churches.
The churches keep pushing the Pie In The Sky bullshit to the masses. They still swallow that BS every Sunday. There is ZERO chance of any mass disobedience occurring.

14. While listening to the clip in the OP, Gov. Christie is on the TV
in the other room. It's like standing in a field, and on one side of you is a stream of pure, clean, flowing water and on the other side a fetid sewer of stagnant human waste.

Hedges sees how dire our situation is, and he accurately prescribes the cure.

and I must have missed it. I actually keyed in on your post. I couldn't believe you said what you did. I think Alyona Minkovski is a Russian Spy handpicked by Putin. My bad, apparently. I didn't know everyone here knew about the KGB connection. I have read RT News is being studied by the CIA and something will break next year. Funny, how the wolves are being let in the chicken house when the barn is in such sad shape. No, not funny...actually the way societal unraveling is suppose to work at the hands of experts.

18. I think Chris Hedges is right and massive civil disobedience is
coming. However, for me, his message could have been delivered on a different forum. RT has ulterior motives. Putin is Russia's Karl Rove and his selection of operatives is brilliant.

28. There will be no civil disobedience
The people of this nation are too pacified with things like:
- Reality and talk Television
- Sports both college and professional
- Religion
- Things that should not be an issue like gay marriage and abortion (The opposition to this and the proponents both keep us occupied on one side or the other).
- Faux fear generated to hysteria proportions to both control and cajole the public.

35. Until things turn really bad
and then it will probably be too late. That is what I've felt. But on the other hand, my personal strategy is to start building alternatives to our current deeply troubled and sick system. I agree that our population has been all but zombified. But when it comes down to basic day to day survival and masses of folks are experiencing this - I do have some respect for the human consciousness to become aware of its survival needs. So mass civil disobedience will likely occur at that point.

We need to:

1. Educate those who will listen.
2. Build alternatives - I'm learning to garden this year. My life doesn't depend on it now but ...
3. Form sub communities of like minding people who recognize the sickness we are fighting.

34. The Nation is too dumbed down and it was done by the power brokers over the past 30 years....
it began in our schools in the late ear;y 80's. I knew it was happening when they eliminated Ecology and civics from the curriculum at the behest of corporations. Social engineering

Sorry to say but, their will not be any revolution....just lots of poverty, pain and sadness to come

37. I disagree with the naysayers.
Revolution is a real possibility in the United States of America. People are getting more educated by the hour, thanks to the internet. Even conservatives want to end the wars and cut back on empire. Progress is real. The goal is a modern Social Democracy, with Economic Democracy for the masses. FDR's Bill of Rights finally brought to reality, that is what is our future.
