Effective June 6, Lehrer will no longer be an anchor for the PBS NewsHour; he has anchored the PBS evening news program since 1975, when the program was The MacNeil/Lehrer Report. With MacNeil, Lehrer anchored PBS live coverage of the Watergate hearings in 1973. In 1983, the Report expanded to an hour and became The MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour; after MacNeil retired, the show was The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer from 1995 to December 2009.

The producers have done a terrific job of bringing good folks in and preparing them. Jim Lehrer will be missed, but all will not fall apart with his leaving.

embedded part of the PBS landscape it's going to be difficult to fill his shoes..
