About 5 minutes into this, the moron Michele Bachmann asserts that the Constitution forbids lame-duck sessions of Congress. She said the same thing on the Hannity show today. This is, of course, complete nonsense. But because she said it, millions of Fox viewers will believe it -- and repeat it.

the 20th Amendment to the Constitution passed some time ago meant to terminate the practice. It didn't make the practice "illegal" it just moved the end of the session ahead to Jan. 1
The writers of the Amendment think anyone would travel back to Washington between Thanksgiving and January. They didn't envision air travel.

The 20th Amendment made lame-duck sessions no longer mandatory. But in no way does it constrain Congress from holding sessions in December or any time after the general election and before the new Congress is seated.

Look at the amendment. The language just is not there.

Prior to the 20th Amendment, Congress was required to meet in December. The new Congress was not seated until March.

Originally, under Article I, Section 4, Clause 2, the Congress was required to convene at least once each year in December. That requirement created a mandatory lame duck session following each federal election.
