GRETNA, La. -- In Gretna Friday morning, BP and Coast Guard officials met with several parish leaders to discuss how to move forward with oil spill recovery efforts after the blown-out well is permanently sealed.

However, the positive circumstances became overshadowed by more frustration.

Plaquemines President Billy Nungesser left early.

"I walked out of the meeting because they're lying. The Coast Guard is lying and BP is lying," Nungesser said.

He said unified command officials delivered conflicting details about the standing down of equipment in Plaquemines Parish. He said too many out-of-state response workers are being brought in, while local fishermen remain out of work...

1. You do know that Billy Nungesser is a top level Republican party operative, don't you?
He has been trying to make the administration look bad from day one.

3. He's telling the truth....
The Coast Guard and BP are lying, lying, lying and I've had a front row seat here on Pensacola Beach. It's disgusting. I hold the administration responsible for it because they are assisting!

6. he may be a republican tool but
he is getting the same treatment that democrats are getting in this situation. Since Obama put the recovery crew (Kenneth R. Feinberg) in place, everything that was happening, STOPPED. It's unbelievable what is coming out of the government's spokespeople's mouths. When you live here and see it first hand and you hear what you know is an absolute lie, you cannot believe this is happening.

7. Really?
I'm more inclined to question the credibility of anonymous posters that support that Republican ass-hat than to believe them.

8. Question all you want....I'm not anonymous
I'm simply relaying my personal experience as I've been affected directly. It's important for those of us who are experiencing the problems to let others know.

10. I am inclined to believe the residents who live in the area and
am strongly influenced by plenty of pictorial evidence; contaminated & dead sealife, oil stained beaches and statements from fishermen who depend on clean seas for their livelihood. Political affiliation has nothing to do with this. The truth appears to be that BP has given up on repairing the disaster created by their own incompetance.

17. People sure are spending an inordiate amount of energy denying
what we can see with our own eyes. As long as folks post fish kills and tarballs et al. I am going to believe there are problems.

13. Why don't you take a run down to the gulf and size up the
situation for yourself?

16. I came across badly, I apologize.
I know the sensitivity of the area to the problem (used to live in Gulfport) and I have no doubt there are 1) real problems and 2) real concerns by local residents. What I have a problem with is allowing Nungesser to be an arbiter of what is legitimate response and what is a failure. His agenda is too obvious, too transparent, and too longstanding to be denied.

You need to get another spokesperson.

12. What do you call all the other residents who have been telling us
that the oil is still fouling the gulf? This is not a political game; it concerns the lack of containing contamination of the waters and beaches in the Gulf.

11. What does that have to do with the truth of the situation?
Either the mess has been cleaned up or not, and it appears the oil contamination is still doing it's damage and is still hitting the beaches. This should not become political hay.

14. This Admin dosn't need repukes to make them look bad, they are doing just fine on their own.
They could change that by having the USCG do what they are suposed to do instead of sucking off BP every chance they get.

2. Out of state workers?
Does anyone get what that would be, check their id's who they work for.

Why would you bring in outside workers? So the local area does not know what is going on.

I would also wonder if they had to take an ideological exam to get the job for the company they are working for.

Sounds like mercenaries for extremist.

Just a guess though.

9. I am posting what I think is credible information on the Gulf Crisis
because there is essentially a corporate mandated news blackout for the entire Gulf Coast region. I sincerely believe there is an environmental catastrophe of untold death to flora and fauna with destruction of entire life systems occurring right now. And as far as I am concerned, this national emergency transcends the trivial bullshit of political parties and their useless finger pointing. The corporations OWN our political parties... wake the fuck up. We the people are sounding the damn alarm.
