It sounds like to me that the White House was completely caught off guard by his own party's resistance to this slowly weakening plan. Charlie Gibson asks if Obama feels like he is being held hostage by individual Senators (read Lieberman)... he denies that it is a problem. He then goes on to try to scare the very Americans who are watching the interview on TV...

"If we don't pass it - here's the guarantee... that the people who are watching tonight, your premiums will go up, your employers are going to load up more costs on you, potentially they are going to drop your coverage because they just can't afford an increase of 25... 30 percent in terms of the cost of providing health care to employees each and every year... and the Federal government WILL go bankrupt..."
