Columnist David Brooks is a conservative that isn't blindly devoted to former Gov. Sarah Palin. "She's a joke. I can't take her seriously," he told ABC's George Stephanopoulos Sunday. "The idea that this potential talk show host is considered seriously for the republican nomination, believe me, it will never happen. Republican primary voters are not going to elect a talk show host," said Brooks.

But the other conservative on the panel with Brooks wasn't buying into the Palin frenzy either. George Will thinks Republicans can do better. "Some conservatives think they have found in Sarah Palin a Republican William Jennings Bryan. Now, Why would they want someone who lost the presidency three times?" asked Will.

1. I think the real news in this clip
isn't that David Brooks thinks she is a joke, he has said that before. It is that Gwen Ifell takes her seriously.

5. I agree with Gwen
We should do everything possible to encourage Sarah Palin become the republican presidential candidate. ;-) :D

16. Absolutely!
This Brook guy needs to be marginalized by Republicans before he destroys their chances of having Sara Palin on the ticket in 2012!

7. Gwen Ifell is a joke too. If all the people here were not conservatives then it might be worth
listening to their opinions.

3. David's right;
I hated saying that, but she is a joke. Gwen is right, she has to be taken seriously. There is so much money and power propping this joke up. Now there's a joke in there somewhere.

9. Reagan was a joke too
After all, who would ever take a former B-grade movie star seriously? If enough misled and/or outright stupid voters are motivated to get up and cast votes for 'unelectable' Srah Palin one November morning...

Every raging populist is a joke until they are not.

Reagan was a joke. Who'd elect a B-movie star?

George W was a idiot. Who'd elect a bumbling buffoon?

Remember, this is a country that elected Bush TWICE.

Never say never.

BTW, Obama was the longest longshot you'd ever seen if you think back just 4 years ago.

14. Outstanding points,
but they will fall on deaf ears here. I remember people pissing their pants when McCain and Palin closed the percentage gap during the general election last year. They talked shit about her and then realized, hey, this ticket could pull it off.
I especially like your example about Obama. I don't mean to compare him to Palin, but they are alike in that you wouldn't think they would ever be president. A black man whose middle name is Hussein and has a last name that rhymes with Osama? He'll be president? Yeah right.

19. Do you really feel you are that efficient?
Your username, that is. Highest specific heat of any substance.

There were a panicked few who worried that the GE could be pushed enough to create a M/P win, but the empiricists were fairly aware that it would not have been worth the effort.

As for whether any of them could be President?

Well, shit son... Bush had the IQ of a retarded turnip and the charisma of a monitor lizard wearing a Groucho Marks mask and he still brought the gap close. Goes to show you never know when it comes to the idiots in this land.

21. Hi Doctor. You made some good points—funny too.
My user name isn’t based on science but a song by Tori Amos. I’m not even sure if a diamond can reach that state, but that’s the point of the song. It’s about something extremely strong (the soul) losing its structure and strength.

17. You are, of course, sadly mistaken...
"This country" did not 'elect Bush twice', or even once.

Anyone who's done some real research knows this is the truth. Nonetheless, your point has merit... the bimbo could be hacked in as well.

11. David Brooks is fairly smart. Will republicans listen to him? Maybe he's too reasonable.
Let's get Rich Lowry talking about Sarah Palin again. Remember when he alluded to masturbating to Palin during the Presidential Debates?

15. Doesn't anyone else think that she'll be destroyed in the Primaries by her opponents?
Edited on Sun Nov-15-09 10:30 PM by Turborama
It would be a slaughterhouse! I really don't think she'd get very far. She has a disinformed, noisy, ignorant and obnoxious bunch of fans who are a minuscule segment of the population.

When you start getting worried about Palin, remember http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0utkTp7DTw&NR=1">this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esSAVnn2ye0">this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjxzmaXAg9E">this & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJghQMq49dw">this and think how many TV ads can be made from just those videos alone. Then there's the quitting thing, http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&rls=com.microsoft:en-US&q=palin+secessionist&aq=f&oq=&aqi=g1g-m5">her secessionist tendencies (look at all the related searches at the bottom too) and those are just a few things I could think of from the top of my head. There is a lot more ammo against Palin out there, too.

As for the Reagan argument, when he got in home computers had only just come on the market, there still wasn't any 24 hour news (CNN started broadcasting towards the end of his campaign) & the internet was only http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Internet">just starting to be conceived. What I'm saying is that there were a lot more low information voters then than there are now and someone's reputation can be destroyed far more easily now than even when Bush ran against McCain.

As for Obama's campaign skills versus what hers would be like, if she were to survive the Republican slaughterhouse. Well, we've seen what happened last year and that was just a taster of how lunatic her crowds can get - as we saw this summer at the town halls.

I'm not saying we should ignore the fact she could be dangerous - we cannot afford to be complacent, I just think she doesn't stand a chance against her own party or Obama in 2012.
