Senate Democrats are hopeful that they can get 60 votes for healthcare reform with a public option included. Senators Schumer, Brown, and Whitehouse hold a press conference Wednesday in support of the public option.

1. How do we get 60 votes? 58 Democrats + Sanders (I) = 59. Snowe said No. nt

2. Worth watching - 2 of my faves: Brown & Whitehouse
Not sure about Harry Reid being the "best vote counter and vote getter" that Chuck's seen (guess that's Chuck's experience)...would be nice. However, what I want is what Senators Brown & Whitehouse want...not a weak "public option" with opt-out.

I don't know who the 60th vote is...good question. Are we left to believe Kyl?!

7. Reid as "Best vote getter"? Because he is weak kneed and willing to capitulate ...
... on our values.

It's no trick getting votes. Just do what the insurance companies want and the votes will be there. Corporate interests are the best vote getters.

4. The Insurance Industry will do the same as the Credit Card Industry

raising rates, screwing people out of coverage, profiting off your misery

If what the credit card companies are doing today is any indication, hang on to your hats, because they are gonna start gouging any day now.

5. Okay, everyone place your bets as to who "Number 60" is.

A repug as 60th vote? Are you kidding? They are going to need at least 63 for good measure--maybe 62 is they are lucky. I am amazed that Sherrod Brown and others are optimistic about getting this through. So what else can I do? Trust them?

6. For all those who have ears to listen and eyes to see this is what I believe happened
A "trigger" option is no public option at all and just ends up making priv ins mandatory AND it is the plan the Obama WH (with semi-president Rahm Emanuel) insisted upon. The Huffington Post's reporters investigated what went on in closed meetings with Obama and Reid's team and the WH was very angry that Reid went with an "Opt out" bill to bring to the floor and even told Reid "Don't come complaining to us when you don't have enough votes".

Reid continued with the opt out solution in the public option because he knew he had the votes... against the WH's wishes however. Then suddenly(why at this particular time when it looked like the opt out was all but certain)...suddenly Joe Lieberman will not allow the vote to come to the floor if it has a public option (like the trigger, no option at all). That he will suppport a republican filibuster saying we don't need reform at this time with a public option. Whamo....perfect timing to stop the opt out public option. Joe could have said this at any time but waited till Reid had this bill coming to the floor...then boom.

Remember who was Obama's mentor when he came to the senate...Joe Lieberman. Remember what Obama did for Joe even after Joe said he was a secret Muslim and tried to get McCain elected...Obama made sure there were no repercussions and brought Joe back into the fold with open arms even getting a chairmanship.

I voted for Obama and supported his election campaign. I loved his change rhetoric and was optimistic. Now...I see he has followed Bush's state's secrets, even bringing preventive detention into play and going against 2 court rulings to keep photos of torture secret (Joe Lieberman attached an amendment to a bill saying the photos could never be exposed by the FOIA...ever.) Obama followed Bush's bank bailout without regulation attached. Obama supports Bagram's secret rendition and torture prison. Obama has not come out boldly pushing for a public option...can you imagine Bush remaining silent instead of pressuring senators to pass something he stood for? I was expecting someone more in line with FDR and now I'm getting a Clinton-Bush combination. I "wish" it weren't so but denying reality makes you a repub and I'm no repub.

I think Joe Lieberman is doing exactly what the "Rahm Emanuel" Obama wants him to do to stop this public option and give the private ins industry (like he did with Pharma)a big gift that will ensure huge campaign donations during the next election cycle. Look who Obama surrounds himself with...I never would have thought it with Obama but I guess big money powers elections. Now I know why there were so many secret meetings with major corporations during the Democratic convention...it was funded by AT&T...remember Obama's vote on FISA telecom immunity? Excuse me while I throw up. It was all so simple...just make it Medicare for all who want it.
