4. Yes he is.
I spent ten years fighting denials and reviews first with blue cross than cigna.
The result, because of so many delays in treatment my son is permanently disabled and the Insurance Cartel achieved their end goal of pushing him onto the medicare rolls .
We have taken Single Payer off the table.
The Public Option has been cut from the bill.
Now they object to Co-Ops.
The Republicans (and some Dems) are paid shills for the Insurance Cartel and will not be happy until we are mandated to buy their product with no regulatory over sites.

10. We need to confront Washington over putting insurance companies profit over people's health

ANY politician who stands for health insurance profit above health care should be called out and held to the fire.

It is completely unacceptable.

13. Bravo!
It looks like this was taken from when he was promoting his Sicko film. Its too bad Washington does not call on him to testify and contribute to the present healthcare debate.

Instead they ignore the sane argument for no profit single payer and give Insurance co.s a gift of 40,000,000 more clients to feed on.

19. K&R. Good point-- insurance overhead 25% vs Medicare Medicaid 3%
And somehow we're supposed to still believe the private sector can handle insurance better than the government?

And yes it is immoral to ask how the private sector can make a profit over illness and injury.

The insurance industry is gouging We The People. For months now they have been spending 1.4 million per day purchasing our government in order to keep gouging us. They spend that money on our government knowing that eventually We The People will pay that money back to them. This is NOT democracy, this is democracy being bought out from under us WITH OUR OWN MONEY!!!

22. Everything this man has to say about health care
rings true for me. I'm an Aussie, and therefore a participant in one of those 'evil, socialist, health care systems'. I simply cannot believe that a country of your wealth and ingenuity doesn't have the wherewithall to ensure that ALL of its citizens have access to inexpensive, effective health care.

It just blows me away......!

34. Thank you biggles mate
I have lived in Australia, and I know that if Americans could see the myriad benefits to the country that a well-run national health care system provides they would have no fears. Even the right wingers would demand that we have such a system here if they could really see it in operation. We are drowning in stress in general in America. Go to Australia and see how a universal system has such a huge effect on stress levels. People do not fear being sick and getting treatment. It's amazing!!

The problem is that the insurance companies are holding us all hostage. We will not get this fixed until that stranglehold is broken.

Keep talking, Aussies and Canadians and Brits & French & Scandanavians & Germans & Dutch & Swiss (etc etc). Keep telling Americans what they are missing, not only in providing health care, but in ensuring a MUCH better quality of life for all citizens.

Americans have suffered so long they just have a downtrodden mentality--that it can't be changed. Keep up the positive message, biggles

42. The UK NHS has its problems
but whenever I hear anybody moaning about it, I make sure they get a brief run down of what they'd have to pay to get treatment in the US, and how they would be screwed if they lost their jobs, or their pre-existing conditions started to get too complicated.

My Mum and Dad have had free treatment this year which would have cost many thousands in the US. Dad's on quite a bit of medication. He receives all of it for free (some of it it even sent by courier from Manchester to Cardiff every couple of weeks). I could see where they have to make economies at the hospital, in procedures and facilities, but on the whole their experience was very positive (and not the Stalinist nightmare the wingnuts fantasise about). Mum was even dancing with the ward Sister a couple of days after her bladder op - but then she's that kind of gal!

46. thanks for the input, JawJaw
People need to hear this--that even with some deficiencies the British system is STILL more positive and patient friendly than the nightmarish US system.

My brother and sister who have lived in Australia for a long time won't even CONSIDER coming back to live in America because of the health care problem. Also my brother-in-law's elderly mother who lived in New Zealand couldn't come here to live with her US family. The difference in health care systems is just too discouraging.

Thank you so much for your thoughts. Glad to hear your Dad's being treated for a serious illness without fighting day and night with insurance companies and losing everything he has. It must feel good to feel reasonably satisfied with his care. Most average Americans certainly don't have that luxury. And may your Mum keep on dancin'

25. That a single solitary
human being could be so angry, so disenfranchised, so biased, so intellectually bankrupt, so firmly entrenched in an insupportable and fantastical religiosity...I simply cannot wrap my mind around this!

And, that so many of these humans are our brothers and sisters, fathers and mothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents... OMG!!! How do I embrace, support and empower all my friends and family who so vehemently espouse Teh Stoopid talking points?!?!

For the first time in my life, I am truly frightened by the Angry Group. We The People have got to figure out how to induce a mass epidemic of cognitive dissonance NOW so that Corporate America loses their iron grip on all our lives.

Edited on Fri Sep-18-09 01:45 AM by GreenTea
constantly trash Moore...with the exact same republican talking points one hears all the time from the right-wing haters of the poor, the workers and minorities Hateful lying greedy republicans....

Watch, these progressive trashers will just repeat what they've heard or read in mainstream media and spew out the same shit like it's their own thoughts & words.

But back to the point, why do some liberals insist on trashing Moore....NO one is perfect, but they expect Moore to be why?

Moore is always out there trying and confronting the elitist, the ruling class, the wealthy the
republicans, the corporations....Why do some liberals hate Moore because of the way he looks, because they are jealous, because he edits his films with a liberal slant....every editor has a slant whether they are aware of it or not...

It obviously pisses me off immensely why they despise the great Michael Moore

32. The way I look at it, capitalism was given the chance to prove it can work in health care.
Edited on Fri Sep-18-09 05:51 AM by bulloney
It failed miserably, putting profit before service and accelerating that mindset to where it's bankrupting the country while insurance company executives take (notice I didn't say "earn") obscene wage and benefit packages.

If these self-proclaimed "free market" supporters really believe their ideology, they should have proven to us how it does work, but they have instead, time and time again, shown that greed takes over and service and quality decline. This includes health care, investments, energy production and other areas that are vital to our well-being.

37. Michael
Our national treasure, also made a movie called "Canadian Bacon". It was a sweet warm touching comedy. I mention this because it was not a documentary, but a feature film. (Or whatever a normal movie for entertainment is called) We are losing such wonderful movies because Michael does documentaries these days. Given the choice, it's much better for my fellow man that he do the documentaries, but his feature films are pretty good, too!

38. Canadian Bacon was great.
Hilarious in true Moore style, but It did have a message and was a political movie . How quick we were to go to war over nothing and how people fell for it hook line and sinker. brining out the worst in human nature.
Michael started with documentaries (Roger and Me) and sidestepped with Canadian Bacon. You should check out his TV show The Awful Truth, I think you might enjoy it. Moore has been involved with politics and his particular brand of activism since he ran and was elected to the Davidson School Board. He was 18 at the time and in his senior year of high school.
This is my favorite segment of the Awful Truth.
