1. Nope, the lady was not

deserving of a nuanced Barney Frank answer. The best way to deal with these I.D.iots, birthers, deathers is to belittle them when you have the chance. Making nice accomplishes nothing. We have already tried nice.

They are carrying guns to the town hall meetings! We can wait, like the jews in Hitler's Germany, until we are getting our heads bashed in. It is NOW time to fight and not mince words. Duh.

2. Sam had a point. However, it could be said that Frank probably got to say

what he could have said to her to someone else who could have provided a civil exchange.

Funny how we never heard a Republican mention Hitler during the eight years of overt campaigns by Cheney-Bush.

Now, we're talking about everyone's health, some peoples' grotesque profits, corruption of our leaders including every single Republican when it comes to being paid off, plus the Baucuses and Feinsteins in the Dem Party - and now with health as an issue, there is Hitler.

This is about everyone who doesn't mind that there is a no fly list and that Mexicans and Moslems are swept off the streets and imprisoned or massacred or tortured?

...and it is exactly his kind of thinking that gets us labeled as weak sisters.

Not that I'd want to see this kind of thing happen all the time. But dammit, these people have been loudly disrupting town halls with their "vile and contemptible" spew for too damned long now and it was past time for someone to blast one of them. Barney Frank did the job with aplomb.

When you are trying to sell a major new civil rights program to 300 million people, and some major fraction of them aren't even aware that Medicare is a govt program, and you've got the private insurance industry doing everything in it's considerable power to enforce the status quo...

10. I agree with you.

Another point: you CANNOT have a rational conversation with these people. They don't go there to listen. They go there to cause trouble.

By the time someone gets to one of these rallies carrying an Obama poster with a Hitler mustache, his/her mind has been made up for a long time and s/he simply won't be amenable to conversation or persuasion. I think they need to be belittled and ridiculed for their stupidity so that maybe someone else thinks twice before buying into it - or at least thinks twice before saying it publicly.

These loudmouths are intentionally rude bullys and they consider Dems weak spined and innefective. She got what she deserved. Now our other Democratic leaders need to man up/woman up and start fighting fire with fire instead of cancelling and cowering to the morans.

These people do not respect the President (because he is black), they don't respect other citizens rights to participate in public events so they deserve no respect.

No mixed feelings. They want to disrupt, then get it shoved back in their face ... in a funny and even-keeled way. Let the right wing try and spin it how they will. Whatever. They're going to spin it anyway, so WTF? You can't keep playing pattycake with these people. Say what you mean and mean what you say. End of story. Good on Barney.

Sorry to say it but Sam missed the boat on this one.

If the republicans were interested in a true discourse, which they have proved during the course of these TH Meetings that they are not, then Sam would be correct.

Attempting to appease their inane questions with facts is akin to responding to someone who asks you, "How long have you been a wife beater?" It demeans you just to respond to such idiocy, and it advances the agenda of the person who asked the disingenuous question.

I hope more Congress members follow Barneys' lead.

15. As much as I love Barney Frank and his response

It would have been equally awesome if he pointed out that it was Otto von Bismarck who first pushed for health insurance reform not Hitler. (Hitler did talk about Eugenics. But that's because he was a freaking nutcase.) The healthcare tho was inherited, wasn't it? And I wish he went on to say that comparing Obama to a man who illegally invaded countries, instigating the second world war and rounded up jews and gypsies and murdered them by the millions is absolutely absurd. I dunno, haven't seen a video of the entire townhall meeting so maybe Frank did say more? Also, on the issue of bankrupting the US with healthcare reform....we need someone to point out how much it will cost and the rate it will continue bankrupting families and individuals if we Don't reform healthcare. The wingnuts are convinced that middle class americans are going to have their taxes raised or have to pay more than they currently do for health insurance under the new plan. That is the number one fear. In this economy no one wants to pay more and have reduced benefits. So if someone from the democratic party can explain taxes and costs won't go up many will be comforted.

But you know it's easy to say this after the fact. I love what Barney Frank did say and hope to see more push back from democrats on this issue.
